With the River City Ransom collab back up, we're now introduced to two sets instead of one in order to balance out the 2 collab ubers, and in each of those sets, there's one uber from each basic set outside of the Girlsmon and Iron Legion sets.
This a list of 3 categories, those being the Red team, the White team, and two previous sets from 2021 and 2022 for any uber who got snubbed out, just to give me more things to talk about?
So, Red or White? Or have you already missed out on the best deals? Let's ball.
(Yknow... because it's the ball stages...)
-Red Team-
Kunio Kun:
We're all familiar with combo ubers, and Kunio Kun is definitely one of them. Among the likes of Diabolosa, Himeyuri, and Lasvoss, Kunio Kun has an extra trick up his sleeve to make things work in your favor. Unlike those, who all have amazing niche performance, Kunio Kun, while not notorious for it, dips nearly all his quality into the combo, that being Don't Mess With Me, an amazing 1 slot medium wallet boost, and it shows in more ways than one. Obviously, being a unit is not Kunio's main strength on either form, mostly being good for filler sniping and maybe tanking, although the tank niche is hardly worth it when you have Titan Cat. Where Kunio shines is saving you precious Rich Cats and dominating the dojo since money is dry there. It sound uninteresting on first glance, but it leads to an amazing unit that isn't replaceable by any non-uber unit, nor is his quality as the dojo beast(tm). If you find him to be not that impressive, I'd recommend looking a little deeper.
Somewhere between A and S because combo utility but he's good trust me
Sodom:
Textbook definition of a mediocre unit. Not average but without relevance, not bad but having relevance. Just plain old mediocre. Due to being as expensive as a giant flat screen tv with the mobility and ease of moving to boot, a lot of Sodom is simply inconvenient. It doesn't help that his role as a tanker is flawed and it eats into his role as a ranger. Tankers are best when they're easy to use, but not Sodom, who's recharge is aggressively long for the role, and combined with his grueling speed and cost, any usage in the role is visible at best and a pipe dream at worst. His health is also slightly below average and his range is generally too high, just to make things even more annoying. Niches aren't that good either. Maybe if he had Massive Damage, he could compare to Luza, but his only offensive power is Knockback, which we all have forgotten existed at some point. Recharge is fine from a generalist value, and his offense can be really good, but it's only slight qualities to prevent him from being bad, and not much else.
C-
Kuu:
Same deal, but worse stats and better mobility/niche. Earns a slightly more generous C- I guess. Let's just talk about the ultra talents since I want to keep this positive.
Ultra talent Kuu is freakishly overpowered. She has Gao stats without a damage boost and exceeds his mobility as a tradeoff for worse range. On top of that, she has the Strong ability to make her overpowered damage outright gamebreaking. Red niche? Completely overpowered and very versatile. Black niche? Same thing, just with more competition and some slightly aggravating attack rate issues. Relic niche? Literally on par with Luza while maintaining far better generalist value. Luza may be a free unit, but Kuu can be gotten so much earlier and combine with him later on to make sure no relic enemy is ever a problem. She also works incredibly well with other units she has niche overlaps with. She may have competition, but is her competition hyper-viable as a generalist on top of the broken niche? Outside of Courier, I don't think so. (Pizza and Slapsticks are still amazing generalists though).
S
Momotaro:
Mobility can mean everything, and Momotaro is probably the biggest (but maybe not the best) example. Despite some kind of weak stats, his sheer ease of usage allows him to stack very quickly, turning below average dps and mid procs into some total chaos. Through how fast he is, and how amazing his survivability is for something so cheap, Momotaro is an amazing anti-angel and anti-red. Essentially the Uber Rare equivalent to Cameraman. Not the best stats in the field, but tons of sustainability compared to the competition and tons of mobility. Otherwise, he's pretty self explanatory, but do beware his aggressive speed. It's his only major flaw.
A
Tecoluga:
One of very few truly good Nekolugas, Tecoluga's kit has shined past that rest of the set and his title of best is earned, ten fold. Ludicrous damage at ludicrous range with the balancing of single target, Tecoluga is very unique but overwhelmingly powerful. Of course, the Nekoluga curse catches up to even him. Dreadful mobility and survivability leave him vulnerable in a few endgame situations. Single target is a fine balancing factor, but his outright lack of defense means that losing him is very easy and his recharge means that it's punishing on top of that. These are big issues, by the way. It outright means that his usage is just not there in certain stages, which sucks because if the Nekolugas had basic survivability and mobility, this would never have been an issue. However, it just shows how good Tecoluga is, that even with such major flaws, he's still worth using in today's standards, and he'll still be the best one until ultra talents and ultra forms start becoming things for more of the Nekolugas.
A
Akira:
Nice little unit with kind of weak stats and abilities, but when they all combine, Akira can prove himself very useful. Giving him a B, now on to the ultra talents.
Ultra talent Akira is freakishly overpowered. Again. The effectiveness of his Surge is basically the reason everything about him goes from "pretty good" to some true top 20 uber material. With the high ranged and peon filled nature of Aliens, Akira can lean on both ends of the spectrum and wallop them with berserk amounts of damage, and when Strengthen kick in, that terrifying damage becomes even higher, for something around 45k dps. If you're lucky, his freeze can offer some reprieve. Same thing applies to the Aku niche, just with more relevancy. Both niches also put his bulk to good use, since Aku's have death surge, Aliens have high range, and Akira himself has Strengthen. It's an incredibly overwhelming kit, and Akira is rightfully place as one of the best units for all his niches.
S
Amaterasu:
Probably the best unit in the whole set, Amaterasu is just ideal in every single way. Extremely high traited DPS, really good survivability, great range, decent mobility, and a lot of convenient elements. Amaterasu is about as basically broken as you get. It's not like she has any big issues outside of traitless viability without being boosted. There's simply nothing that's truly bad about her, making her many amazing elements almost completely unrestricted. She shreds through most enemies she outranges, she has a quick attack rate to give her more usage against lighter enemies, she can save a slot for barrier breaking, she has amazing zombie compatibility somehow, and she can reposition an extra time. Plus, her recharge is great and her cost isn't too bad, even though she is in the category of expensive. Lack of curse immunity and surge immunity can be kind of annoying at the absolute worst, but it's mostly a non-issue outside of some loris stages or surge spam stages. Basically god.
SS
Yoshimoto:
Just a sniper down to the core. All his stats are pretty good. Nothing is great, but nothing is outright bad. However, his niche performance is a bit strange. He has an absurdly good Weaken ability but targets traits that are a bit too much for him. Black enemies are aggressive and Akus have death surges. These aren't huge issues, but it isn't often that Yoshimoto can outright carry a stage. That being said, for his piercing and his amazing procs, Yoshimoto is never truly unusable. He's less so a good primary crowd controller, but a really good secondary one. Flimsy, but potentially really good. Lightly underappreciated, maybe.
B
Bora:
A unit who specializes in his pure stats more than anything else, Bora is arguable as both the most overpowered anti-alien, and the overall best. He can walk into range and melt anything he hits. Thankfully, he can tank anything that outranges him and outranges a ton of aliens in his own right. Through that, and the amazing application of Strengthen, Bora can reach truly lethal amounts of damage, which makes him stand out as a top anti-alien, since while all of them have high range and piercing, Bora has stats. Of course, generalist value is a bit clumsy due to his low range even though he's great in other criterias, and you should boost him to make sure he always has enough health to spare. Otherwise, a truly impeccable little guy.
A
Satoru:
The prodigy of all anti-akus, Satoru goes above and beyond when it comes to be a shield piercer. He has a 50% to crack a shield, which is huge for his aggressive amount of piercing. He has 470 range and his ld goes up to 770, which makes his accuracy very good. With Surge Immunity as a doodad to make his compatibility better, the praise Satoru gets is not lost on him. However, he's not just a shield piercer like some anti-akus. While the combination of Slow and Knockback can be troublesome, Satoru's high uptime, high range, and insane piercing give him so much field control that it isn't even funny. Aku's are generally short ranged, so Satoru will never push too far. To make things better, he even has very good mobility as well as decent offense, giving him a strong layer of generalist value that most snipers don't have. To balance all of the overwhelming positives, Satoru has low health, but it's nothing a trip to the catseye caves can't fix. Just a stellar anti-aku in every way and well deserving to be considered the best one.
A+
-White Team-
High School Kingpin Riki:
Riki is the leader of the white team, but being in the same collab as Kunio, he naturally follows the same formula of a "combo first, stats second" unit. However, I'd personally say Riki has more overall usage, since Riki's combo-power-to-actual-usage ratio is better than Kunio Kun. It should be mentioned that this combo doesn't have the same weight as Kunio's. That doesn't make it bad, mind you. It's a small defense bonus, meaning that for 1 slot, all the healthbars of your units are increase by 10%. Generally valuable, especially because of the erasers. As for actual usage, the higher health and cat combo give Riki more acceptable stats for a tanker, so his usage as filler defense is actually pretty good. The sniper mode is super gimmicky, but his Knockback ability and piercing can give him so super good pushing power if all the elements click. Overall, I'd still recommend Kunio first, but Riki's health boost will surely be welcome, and arguably more frequently than Kunio's combo, even if the effect isn't that crazy.
A
Raiden:
Raiden has always been surprisingly well built compared to most other Dragon Emperors. A good mixture of high stats across the board and the bonus of the Knockback ability make Raiden pretty unique among his cohort dragons and fellow anti-reds. 9k dps isn't the highest number ever, but it's still capable of killing, not to mention Raiden can tank far more. There may not be many areas where it's needed, but it still gives him more versatility against Professor A and Deonil. The knockback ability allows Raiden to breach enemy range and regain ground quicker, further adding to his overall power. Aside from kinda low range and being a bit expensive, Raiden has no issues. He also has some good ultra talents, but they aren't big enough to detour into, so yeah.
B+, A- with ultra talents
Coppermine:
Same thing as Kuu but her niche performance is better I guess and she's kinda good as a generalist. Still lacks relevance, so C. Ultra time.
Just as I said before, Kuu and Akira become amazing when boosted, and Coppermine is no exception. Sporting around 10k dps thanks to her mini-surge, which becomes 21k at level 60, Coppermine has amazing offense on her own However, while any other unit with that kind of offense would have some weakness, Coppermine really doesn't have any outside of kind of low health and range. In fact, her mobility is insanely good, having a cost of under 3000 and a recharge less than a minute long. Not only do you have broken offense, but also broken mobility. Every Coppermine is worth 21k dps, so getting a good stack going will inevitably overrun stages with raw damage. The spawn radius can be a bit inconsistent, but it's barely and issue for everything else in her favor. As a bonus, she's an amazing crowd controller for floatings and zombies, with huge uptime and almost guaranteed procs. She does get snubbed in the overall ultra-talent race, but not by much.
S
White Rabbit:
White Rabbit is passable. Her crowd controlling is ok. That's it. It's hard to talk about an uber that's so aggravatingly average in her procs and mediocre in every other category. There's just nothing that exciting here. All I can say is that she gets outclassed by Seafarer and the other guys, and with Terun having released nearly 2 years ago and how much better she is without a true form, it shows how outdated White Rabbit is.
C
Poseidon:
A borderline top 20 uber who gets barely snubbed out, Poseidon really does rule. While his uptime is a bit shaky as a Freeze unit, his targets and mobility are both amazing, as he can be stacked easily and deals with both traits exceptionally well. He can halt just about any zombie outside of Cadaver Bear and Zamelle, and pretty much every metal enemy. As a bonus, despite being an anti-metal, Poseidon doesn't skimp out on damage. In fact, his damage output is quite high. When boosted, Poseidon can ravage frontlines with huge damage and high health for a sniper, and if you get lucky, he can preform a savage blow that deals around 300k damage. Poseidon truly is a special unit, but I do think top 20 is a bit much for him, so I'd say he's the 21st best uber. Not the best almighty, but he'd be the best in most other sets.
S
Voli:
Most ubers that share niche overlaps with lower rarities tend to be better generalists but not as good specialists. However, Voli is the opposite of that. They have subpar generalist value compared to Seafarer, but offer a far more aggressive form of niche performance. With a shocking (lol) amount of health and a high uptime freeze, and decent range and speed to boot, Voli can do exactly what Bora does, but now with fancy crowd controlling instead of lethal damage. That kinda makes Voli the weaker unit, but they're still incredibly good at their job. That being said, Seafarer already does that job and has better generalist value/mobility, but Voli is still amazing at the job, so ever with a big niche overlap and less generalism, Voli is a great uber.
B+
Kintaro:
Kintaro's ability to produce Savage Blows is one that straight up wins. His basic sniper stats are quite good, but his 30% chance to produce a blow bumps his solid 3.4k dps to around 4.5k-5k, which is very high and is in line with some basic rangers, which is enhanced by his piercing. Kintaro also has decent procs just for the heck of it, all in all turning him into one of the strongest snipers in terms of overall stats, and that's an amazing title to have. However, he's also one of the most unwieldy. Kintaro has quite a lot of flaws to balance out his insane potential damage. His damage is tied to a multi-hit, so while his damage can skyrocket, it can also dip, especially since it's chunked together. Alongside that, his recharge is kind of eh and his cost is a tad expensive. The biggest issue is his freakishly high speed, which causes sustainability issues, especially with average health and 3 knockbacks. Obviously, he's not a perfect unit, but everything that is good about him is worth the struggle in using him. Daliasan is better tho
A
Amakusa:
Kind of similar to Kintaro in that he's a multi-hit unit with incredibly high damage potential, but this time as a ranger nuker, and with some benefits to multi-hit regarding his niche. He already has 7.1k dps, which is huge, and then that becomes 28k dps against black enemies and 21k against akus. Against black enemies, getting all hits is very hard thanks to the knockback counts of black enemies, but Shiro can juggle for days, which allows him to be good within the niche. For akus, he can wail all his hits with ease, and his multi-hit can even allow him to get a hit in after breaking a shield. It's a nice convenient factor for his godlike damage, making him a really good nuker. Bonus surge quality.
A
Furiluga:
For a unit that exists to do one thing, Furiluga cracks shields like there's no tomorrow. Obviously completely unviable as a generalist, but through absurd range, piercing via his mini-surge, and surge immunity, Furiluga is ideal for anything involving shields, and unlike most aku nukers, he's viable against the bosses. Combined with his anger management combo, which is both a great combo on it's own and especially good for akus since you get to use Aku Researcher alongside him. Great combo, amazing shield piercing, nice uber. Stunted due to lack of stats, but better than most Nekolugas.
B+
Cat Tengu:
Cat Tengu is weird. Despite having pretty bad stats, his skillset is really good, which creates a strange middle ground of quality for the bird. Strong + Knockback against reds and angels, with Wave Immunity, Strengthen, high mobility and amazing survivability, Tengu has tons of potential to be an amazing uber, so when that true form happens, expect to see him be a top Dynamite.
B
-Rejects lightning round-
Balrog:
Lol
SSS
Kat-a-pult:
Generally underwhelming due to his blindspot screwing his zombie usage over, but very good for Cadaver Bear and has ok stats when you work around his aching mobility.
C
Gladios:
Great as an anti-traitless crowd controller given the general lack or regular non-uber equivalents, but has average generalist value and is mediocre in mobility, plus still has some overlaps.
B
Keiji:
Uncomfortable to handle due to his rapid attacks, but has insane DPS potential due to his great talents and great mobility.
A
Zeus:
Great stats, but conflicting roles that tank his quality a bit. Behemoth Slayer gives him so really good value, though.
B-, A- with ultra talents
Kachi Kachi:
Very good crowd controlling , although the amount of issues you have to deal with when it comes to utilizing him is insane.
B-
Thermae:
Ideal anti-zombie build second only to Sarukani, yet has outright better stats. Insanely powerful against an awful trait.
A+
Waveride Kuu:
I'm not happy
C-
Kanna:
Amazing kit via her multi-hit and surge. Good as an anti-behemoth and has amazing dps despite it being low on paper.
A+
And that's a wrap! Don't forget to grind for catfood to get Kunio! Hope this list gives you a bit of insight on the overall high quality of these sets!
