Strategy/Usage
Axe Cat is only useful early in the game because it is the first proper damage dealer a player obtains. It greatly exceeds the damage output of Cat and Tank Cat. This makes it valuable in early game stages against tougher enemies, including Those Guys, who can be a pain for newer players because of their high health and attack speed, and Pigge, which Axe Cat has an advantage against.
Unfortunately, Axe Cat soon becomes redundant as longer-ranged damage dealers like Gross Cat and Lizard Cat become available. Axe Cat, however, can be used as a damage dealing meatshield like Cat or Tank Cat where money generation is no problem. However, the higher cost combined with low stamina make Axe Cat a poor choice, even against Red enemies.
The misery for Axe Cat only continues when Crazed Axe Cat is unlocked. Crazed Axe Cat, which itself isn't particularly useful as it suffers from the same problems, still outclasses Axe Cat in every way, even when Axe Cat is in his True Form.
True Form
Dark Cat gains a very large boost in stats, nearly double the base stats of his previous form. Another plus, is that Dark Cat gains one new Cat Combo, Power of Darkness, which greatly increases weaken duration. This is especially helpful when used in tandem with Onmyoji Cat or Freshman Cat Jobs (ideally True Form), as under the right circumstances, this can allow for absolute crowd control and area denial.
Depending by his level, Dark Cat can be effective against Bore. Other cats like Maximum the Fighter or Swordsman Cat, however, typically get the job done more effectively and efficiently, once they become available.
Unfortunately, Dark Cat still retains the same weaknesses wherein he is powercreeped by other easily unlockable Rare Cats; and furthermore, his cost of 300¢ becomes very detrimental through late Stories of Legend and Uncanny Legends, as he can be replaced by Jiangshi Cat or other tankier Cats like Ramen Cat.

Trivia
- Axe Cat is missing an eye, but both Brave Cat and Dark Cat have both.
- The cross on Brave Cat & Dark Cat's shield could be a reference to the Crusaders, although it is also likely just an indication of the shape of the shield.
