Strategy/Usage[]
Backhoe Cat's unique trait is that he can reliably target Metal enemies while ignoring other traits that may get in the way, but, if not for that, his stats make him a rather unreliable and inefficient Critical Hitters compared to others. Unless you have nothing better, it's best not to use him in purely Metal stages, but rather only in stages with Metal as support. A good example is Catfruit Jubilee, in which Backhoe Cat is able to reliably target Metal Hippoe and possibly kill it, while about every other Critical Hitter without Area Attack might perform slightly worse.
He can still help in Metal-only stages as support, but never as your main Critical Hitter, for his attack rate and Critical chance are much too low to be reliable. Catasaurus can outperform him under most conditions, thanks to its recharge. However, on more frugal stages, Backhoe Cat's Extra Money ability will put him on top; and due to his recharge time, you don't need to spam him, unlike Catasaurus, meaning he won't drain your cash. However, many other cats outperform him later on, including but not limited to: Catornado, with his quick attack rate; Catasaurus and Talented Cameraman Cat, mainly with spammability; Crazed Moneko, Sunny Neneko and Cheerleader Cat with their 100% chance to perform Critical Hits and Space Marine Cat or Volley Cat, with their higher ranges.
True Form[]
Neo Backhoe Cat gains a chance to produce a Lv.1 Surge Attack. However, the Surge is not guaranteed, so the chance of both a Critical Hit and a Surge Attack happening at the same time is even lower, only a 7.5% chance. To make matters even worse, it has a very wide spawn area, so, even if Neo Backhoe Cat does both a Critical Hit and a Surge Attack, it may either miss completely or hit the enemies square in the face. Because of the way the Surge mechanic works, provided he does Critical, Surge, and the Surge spawns near or on the enemies; the following Critical functions as an Area Attack. Overall, a True Form best for gamblers.

Catfruit Evolution[]
Appearance[]
- Normal Form: Backhoe Cat appears to be a standard Cat driving a backhoe. The backhoe's scoop has been given ears to make it look like a cat’s face. There is also a number '09' on the side of it. The cat driving it appears to be in some sort of suit, closely resembling a hazard suit.
- Evolved Form: The evolved form is the exact same as the normal form. The only addition is a trailer that is carrying what looks to be coal and a shovel.
- True Form: Gains another trailer with round stones inside of it, attached to the old trailer. Is now in full color, consisting of gold and black.

Trivia[]
- Prior to Version 11.2, Backhoe Cat, Driller Cat, Piledriver Cat, Cutter Cat and Miter Saw Cat could only be unlocked when "Grandon Mining Corps" was part of the current pool.
- The backhoe's bucket resembles a cat's face.
- Unlike traditional backhoes, the bucket on the cat closes from both the top and the bottom.
- Backhoe Cat could be seen in Subterra Guardians' attack animation before he was added, albeit with a darker color scheme, a second cat inside the backhoe, and the number "04" instead of "09".
- He is currently the only non-Uber Rare unit to have the Attacks Only ability.
- The Attacks Only ability doesn't carry over to Neo Backhoe Cat's Surge Attack, meaning that it can damage non-Metal enemies.
