Bakery Cat (Rare Cat)

Bakery Cat is a Rare Cat added in Version 9.6 who can be unlocked when beating the Advent Stage First Errand appearing on the 9th, 10th, 23rd, and 24th of every month. True Form added in Version 13.4 gains increased health and range, Area Attack, Zombie Killer, Relic target and Curse Immunity.

Evolves into Boomerang Cat at Level 10.

Evolves into Fried Chicken Cat when obtained from Professional Babbler (Merciless) (guaranteed to drop) and is level 20 or above.

Strategy/Usage

Although you may be excited about his Curse ability with a dash of Long Distance, Bakery Cat is very situational. He can only be particularly useful for stages with Aliens, where he can prevent Warping, and the few Toxic enemies he can Curse. He can be stacked, though that doesn't fix his low survivability.

Bakery Cat should not be used against most Angels and Zombies as said enemies often boast extreme stats, abilities such as Curse doesn't do much against them. It certainly doesn't help that they tend to be close-quarters pushers, and Zombies may even catch him if they surface at the wrong time.

He does well in Papuu's Paradise, where he can Curse Papuu provided you have significant Move Speed Up Combos, a high-level Curseblast, or very good timing skills.

Although Bakery Cat is situational, he can really shine in stages that rely on a single boss in the frontline with an ability that he can remove.

True Form

In its True Form, Fried Chicken Cat is granted Area Attack, improved HP and increased range, which fix a lot of its existing problems. The health boost is good in general, but Area Attacks grant it many more consistent matchups at range, allowing it to safely engage and curse hordes of enemy units. Its role as a 4♛ ranger isn't in high demand, but it does see use when stacked to snipe enemies at a distance. Curse Immunity and Relic Target are equally important, as many Relics are vulnerable to curse, and tend to be reliant on various status effects, including but not limited to Curse. While this unit can't be expected to survive their attacks, it retains its utility in stages with mixed threats, especially those within its other targeted traits and the Relic Doge Base.

The Zombie Killer ability is perhaps the only somewhat redundant addition, since other, far superior specialists can finish zombies better, though it does allow this Cat to be even more useful against Big Peng Z.

• The "Gyarando tribe" (ギャランド族) in Boomerang Cat's Japanese description may be a reference to the song "Gyarandu" (ギャランドゥ) by Hideki Saijo.
  • The specific term the description uses to describe how the tribe made him feel is kangeki (感激, "deep emotion"), which could be alluding to the famous line, "Hideki, kangeki!" from the House Vermont Curry commercials Saijo starred in.
• Fried Chicken Cat's appearance, name and use of chicken are reminiscent of Colonel Sanders, the founder and mascot of KFC.
  • The fact that a unit resembling Colonel Sanders has the Curse ability may allude to the Curse of the Colonel, an urban legend about Colonel Sanders's ghost cursing the Hanshin Tigers with 38 years of misfortune due to their fans throwing a statue of him off a bridge.
