Bean Cats (Special Cat)

Bean Cats are a Special Cat unlocked by completing Greece/Shiga in Empire of Cats Chapter 1. True Form added in Version 12.4 increases health and gains Resistant to Red Enemies, a level 1 Wave Attack, and Behemoth Slayer.

Before 3.2.0, they were unlocked by achieving 3 people inputting your invitation code.

Strategy/Usage

The Bean Cats are quite fragile, so keep them protected whenever possible. They can be used to knockback Reds while your heavy attackers (Bahamut, Titan Cat, etc.) deal with other threats. The Bean Cats are made obsolete by Pirate Cat, since Pirate Cat has longer range, a shorter interval between attacks, a shorter recharge time and 10% more knockback chance in True Form, which makes him more effective and easier to stack. Also, he only costs 15¢ more by Chapter 2 standards. The two of them can be used together if Pirate isn't enough alone.

Even for players without Pirate Cat, they can usually be replaced by Witch Cat or Apple Cat for stalling Reds, along with other units who are significantly better. However, they are included in Team of Two, a Unit Defense Up M Combo which also contains Bouncing Four and Double Date.

True Form

Their true form gains several buffs, including increased defense, the Resistant ability, a guaranteed level-1 wave, and Behemoth Slayer.

The increased defense and resistance helps this unit become a better anti-red, mainly in the early-game and mid-game. While this already breathes new life into these units, this mainly pairs with their wave giving them an effective area attack with a 30% chance to knock red enemies back while taking quite some damage from them. While this niche becomes less relevant in the end-game, this is still useful for how easily accessible it is in the early-game. In addition, their pseudo area attacks can make them more useful than Pirate Cat in many stages.

Another early-game and mid-game niche for this unit is also brought about by its Behemoth Slayer ability. Combining this ability with a resistance to Red and increased defense, this ability helps when dealing with one enemy in particular, Casaurian Ahirujo. In particular, this unit helps to tank with a decent dodge chance against this red duck and keep it back with pseudo area attacks. With how easily accessible this true form becomes, requiring a single red B.Stone, this unit is meant to handle Ahirujo and help the player acquire the powerful Courier Cat.

However, once the player does get the B.Stones necessary to evolve Courier, then Val Val Cat becomes almost obsolete against Behemoths, though that speaks more to Courier's power. Courier is powerful against Red enemies in general, though early-game and mid-game players can use Courier alongside Val Val Cat in many stages. To add to this, Val Val Cat still has those useful Cat Combos.

Overall, while this unit is not overpowered, it received a satisfactory true form upgrade.

Appearance

• Normal Form: Two cats hidden in a bean pod. They attack by jumping out and ground-pounding.
• Evolved Form: Two cats in a pink bra. Same attack animation.
• True Form: Two cats in a blue piece of armor with major similarities to that of True Valkyrie Cat. Attack animation is still the same.

Trivia

• The bright blue coloration of Val Val Cat's armor is likely a reference to Lenneth from the Valkyrie Profile series.
  • Incidentally, Valkyrie Cat also has a winged headpiece similar to Lenneth's.
• In The Battle Cats POP!, the Bean Cats are a Super Rare Cat and can be unlocked via Rare Cat Capsule/Gacha.
• They and Moneko were the only two Cat Units needing Invitation Codes to unlock until Ver 3.2.0.
• Prior to Version 12.5, Val Val Cat's English description mistakenly said it had Colossus Slayer instead of Behemoth Slayer.
• Unlike its previous forms, Val Val Cat's name isn't pluralized even though it still consists of two cats.
• At a little under 9 years, Bean Cats holds the record for the longest delay between their Normal and True forms.
