Behemoth Culling is a group of stages and missions centered around Behemoth Enemies.

Stages[]

Similar to Empress' Research, Behemoth Culling maps appear for 4 set hours of every day and disappear until the next day when cleared. The main three maps initially have four stages each. Upon clearing the fourth stage in each map, a new, single-stage map titled Affliction in the Forest, Oddity in the Desert, or Peril in the Volcano will start to appear with the same schedule, which will unlock six extra stages for the corresponding map when cleared. Another Afflication/Oddity/Peril event will appear after clearing the 10th and 16th stages of each map, again unlocking further stages when completed. The 20th and final stages drop 1 Rare Cat Ticket upon first completion and need to be beaten in map order: beating Hidden Forest of Gapra's Stormrent Forest Area: Final unlocks Ashvini Desert's Moon Dust Area: Final, which in turn unlocks Jinfore Volcano's Ancient Volcano Area: Final.

Clearing the Behemoth Culling stages is one of the few ways to obtain Behemoth Stones to evolve certain cats. Each map offers a different selection of Behemoth Stones and materials for the Cat Base; the further you progress, the higher the Behemoth Stone drop rates and the lower the chance for materials. Note that Epic Behemoth Stones are not obtainable from these stages and currently only drop from Mining Epic, an unrelated event unlocked after clearing Atonement for Sin.

Trivia[]

  • Each map is named after a different breed of cat, though it's only obvious when they're written in Japanese:
  • Like the Behemoths themselves, a few of these stages make references to Monster Hunter:
    • The most likely reason why the final boss of the Behemoth Culling stages is an enemy counterpart of Ganglion is that he's an Elder Dragon, just like most of the "final bosses" of the Monster Hunter games.
    • Venomous Duck's Japanese name, Mōdoku Kaichō (猛毒怪鳥, "Deadly Poisonous Monster-Bird), contains Gypceros' Japanese title: Doku Kaichō (毒怪鳥, "Poisonous Monster-Bird").
    • Performant Thunderclap's Japanese name, Kanaderu wa Jinrai no Oto (奏でるは迅雷の音, "Playing is the Sound of Thunderclaps"), is similar to the title of one of the quests in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd: Mau wa Arashi, Kanaderu wa Saika no Shirabe (舞うは嵐、奏でるは災禍の調べ, "Dancing is the Storm, Playing is the Melody of Disaster"). This quest requires the player to hunt an Amatsu.
  • The names of the stages within the Oddity in the Desert, Affliction in the Forest and Peril in the Volcano maps tend to correlate with the Behemoths within them: Angry Explosion pairs the angry Elephantidae Papaou with the explosive Formicidaean Ariant, Cursed Flaming Party has the curse-inflicting Ancient Magamojoe and the fiery Infernal Pegasus Deonil, and so on.
  • Whenever the Behemoth Culling maps were extended, PONOS always added one more stage than was available in-game. The inaccessible stages were always placeholders with no rewards and an unbuffed Doge as the only enemy until it was time for them to be implemented proper.
