Cala Maria (イカ天, ika ten) is the Angel variant of Calamary that only appears in the Stories of Legend. Cala Maria first appears in the final stage of Above and Below. Added in update 6.1 on May 18th, 2017.
Cala Maria is a powerful enemy that has a very different attack than her Alien/Floating variant. To attack, she slams the ground 3 times in succession. This is a 3-stage attack that deals 36,000 damage per hit for a whopping total of 108,000 damage - enough to make mincemeat of any cat she hits not constantly protected by meatshields. Please do not try to solo your favorite Uber Rare against this enemy.
Cats that have resistance against Angels, such as Ramen Cat and Guardian Gamereon, can tank a few hits from this enemy. However, since it attacks almost non-stop, spawning them is usually a waste of money. It moves at the same speed as Basic Cat and requires 2 knockbacks. To balance this abomination of God Cat, her attack is only single target. There are few Cats (around 20) that can outrange Cala Maria as of 6.1.
Unlike Calamary, she is not considered a Floating enemy.
Dictionary
English Version
A heavenly taste of the sea, sent as a religious vision by the Cat God to those pure of heart. Culinary paradise awaits those who pass this test of faith.
Even though God Cat does not exist in the Stories of Legend, because it takes place in the past, this enemy is sent by him.
Up to update 6.1, with all 3 combined attacks, this enemy has the highest base damage of any regular enemy in the game (108,000), even higher than Capy's critical hits (104,000).
Cala Maria has the sixth highest damage output among all enemies, only behind the two enemy bases from the Dojo, the CyberFaces in Baroque Beasts, and the Assassin Bears from Surrealist Sins and Merciless Onslaught.
However, with no anti-Alien Treasures, Raging Bahamut Cat deals much higher damage (almost 3 times more) than this unit.
Like its predecessor, its name is based on the word "calamari," meaning fried squid.
This unit can be considered a enemy variant of Tesalan Pasalan, since both deal enormous amounts of damage that is balanced with a single target attack.
Cala Maria shares a name with a boss from the game Cuphead.
