Baron Seal, the first example of a Colossus enemy
Colossus Enemies (超生命体 Chō Seimeitai, Super-Lifeforms), also known as Colossal Enemies, are a type of Enemy Unit introduced in Gauntlets, Uncanny Legends, and the Zombie Outbreaks of Cats of the Cosmos Chapter 2. All Colossus enemies also have one of the standard enemy types alongside being Colossus. In terms of design, Colossus enemies are modified versions of their existing counterparts and, likewise, tend to be more powerful than the original, with large orbs embedded somewhere within them.
The only ability to specifically affect Colossus enemies is Colossus Slayer, which increases damage against them to 1.6x and reduces damage taken from them to 0.6x. Colossus Slayer stacks with any anti-trait stat-based abilities (Strong/Massive Damage/Insane Damage/Resistant/Insanely Tough), allowing for massive stat boosts under the right circumstances.
Certain Colossus enemies are used as bosses and the main threat of their respective Gauntlets. They often boast monstrous stats, an assortment of abilities to help them push and powerful support units appearing alongside. In the case of Gauntlet-exclusive bosses, they and their support gain progressive stat boosts in each subsequent fight.
Like Behemoth and Sage, Colossus is not considered a trait, meaning it always overlaps with one of the standard enemy types.
Trivia[]
- Baron Seal, Le'Grim, Mega-Mooth and Super Hyppoh were introduced before the Colossus type itself and thus did not have it until Version 11.2, which added the Colossus type and retroactively applied it to these four enemies.
- Colossus enemies were not listed in the Enemy Guide until Version 11.3, making them the first enemies whose descriptions were added retroactively.
- Most of the major Colossus enemies' Japanese descriptions incorporate the names of their respective stages:
- Baron Seal's states that he requires maximum caution (警戒), the Japanese name of the Red Alert levels.
- Le'Grim's states that he has gone on a rampage (暴走), as in the Rampage Lvs.
- Mega-Mooth's states that he flies (飛来し) while blowing his enemies away, referencing On Mighty Wings' Japanese name, Flight (飛来).
- Super Hyppoh's calls her an invader (侵略者), referencing Cosmic Juggernaut's Japanese name, Invasion (侵略).
- Archangel Exiel's states that he blesses (祝福) those who have lost their way, as in the Blessing Lvs.
- Big Peng Z's states that he wanders (徘徊) the lands, as in the Wandering Lvs.
- Zero Luza's states that it absorbed energy said to be the origin (起源) of all things and awakened (覚醒) its true power, referencing Revival of Origin's Japanese name, Awakening of Origin (起源の覚醒).
- Omens and Gigahaniwan are the exceptions. While Gigahaniwan's states that it was excavated (発掘) from ruins, the term used is different from the Japanese name of the Excavation Lvs. (出土): 発掘 merely implies it was discovered via excavation, while 出土 refers to being unearthed and taken from the ground.
- J.J. Jackrabbit is the first Colossus enemy to:
- Appear outside of Gauntlets.
- Lack its own Gauntlet.
- Be a peon rather than a singular threat.
- According to their Japanese descriptions, most of them are regular enemies enhanced through experiments in the Laboratory of Relics.
- Zero Luza is the only Colossus enemy whose "core" is green rather than black and the only one whose Japanese description does not mention genome modification nor the Laboratory of Relics.
- Every Colossus enemy's Japanese name contains a word pertaining to size or magnitude.
- All Colossus enemies are variants of already-existing enemies.
- Metal is the only standard enemy type without any Colossus enemies as of Version 13.0.
- Traitless and Metal are the only standard types not to have a Colossus Gauntlet boss as of Version 13.3.
- Prior to the Version 13.3 Update, all Colossus enemies except Omens, J.J. Jackrabbit, Great Angel Chibinel and Zero Luza were listed as "Colossal" rather than "Colossus" in the Enemy Guide.
