Crocodylidae Kurocroc (超牙獣クロコックス, Chō Kibajū Kurokokkusu, Super Fang-Beast Kurokox) is a Black/Behemoth variant of Croco that appears in Empress' Excavation 5.

Enemy

This enemy works very similarly to Idi:Re. A rusher with the high speed and knockback count typical of Black enemies, Crocodylidae Kurocroc attacks by running up to cats and biting down on them from 300 range with an added 150 piercing range, then backing up and standing in place for a moment, during which time it will get to retaliate immediately if knocked back. Furthermore, it is immune to both freeze and slow, and weakens anything hit by 50% with roughly 75% uptime. Its fairly long backswing makes it relatively easy to keep stalled until support arrives, having only just over half of the DPS of an 100% R.Ost.

Strategy

Because of its high damage and reach, you should consider using disposable units to slip in hits and various other means to stop Kurocroc from pushing, as its Omni Strikes allow it to push and reach units that could have outranged it, such as Awakened Urs. Its attack rate in particular is not the fastest, so a well-timed Pizza Cat or other lower-ranged anti-Black attackers like Immortal Yukimura could possibly land a devastating hit, and since it is not immune to waves nor surges, it can be easily sniped from a distance. Its full backswing cooldown and high knockback count makes units with knockback effects somewhat risky to use, as they could potentially reset its attack cycle while not doing much damage directly. Its weaken ability is actually the least concerning despite its 75% uptime, since it'll usually destroy whatever it hits easily, making the ability redundant. Nevertheless, certain weaken-immune cats, such as Greater Balrog Cat and King Gameron, are still of use due to their attributes allowing them to fight Kurocroc more effectively.

Apart from the usual anti-Black specialists, this enemy is also a Behemoth, though as mentioned before its high range makes this difficult to exploit, even by the likes of Courier Cat. Fabled Adventure Girl Kanna and Gas Mask Cat are notable examples, as Fabled Adventure Girl Kanna's Surge Attacks allow her to make good use of her Massive Damage against Black enemies, while Gas Mask's Resistance to them and Behemoth Slayer makes tanking Kurocroc a relatively trivial task.

Trivia

• Judging by its Japanese name (Kurokox), winged forelimbs, spiny tail, high speed and Black trait, Crocodylidae Kurocroc's Monster Hunter reference is Brute Tigrex, also known as the Black Roaring Wyvern. Its red eyes and the markings on its forelimbs are based on how Brute Tigrex accelerates its own blood circulation when enraged, making its own bright red veins visible through these parts of its body.
  • It could have also been inspired by Nargacuga, which has red eyes, black scales and a similar tail and forelimbs, but this is less likely due to THE FOLIVOREAN already being a Nargacuga reference.
• The "Kuro" in Kurocroc's name is a pun: not only is it the Japanese word for black, but it's also part of Kuroko, the Japanese pronunciation of Croco.
• Although its English description calls it a gator, alligators are not in the family Crocodylidae, but rather their own family, Alligatoridae. This discrepancy is not present in its Japanese name and description.
  • Zroco has a similar issue, where its English description says it's a gator and its Japanese description calls it a crocodile.
• Crocodylidae Kurocroc has the highest health of all Black enemies, the highest movement speed of all Behemoths, and the highest knockback count of all Black enemies.
