Strategy/Usage
Dark Aegis Garu is an interesting unit, similar to normal Garu like all EPICFEST units are to their UBERFEST counterparts, but still has mostly different usage and an extra ability only gained in his Evolved Form.
Although seeming much better than Garu at first glance, he still shares many of the same weaknesses: High cost, egregiously long recharge time, slow movement speed, a long attack animation and slow movement speed, along with no immunities apart from Immune to Waves like some other tankers.
His usage against Traitless enemies varies a lot, notably the best he works against are the weaker ones that are encountered early on in the game, such as Jackie Peng, Hippoe, Le'boin and the like, but those don't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. Generalist value for Dark Aegis Garu is explained more in-depth below, but note that normal Garu still has more generalist usage than Dark Aegis Garu against Traited enemies.
Common Traitless enemies that he can be used against well goes as follows:
- Against Dolphina, he works well against for the most part, but can be used as a stepping stone for your other units to get hit by Dolphina.
- Against Dober P.D, it is basically the same situation as Dolphina, except Dober has higher DPS.
- Against Kory, it is the same situation as Dolphina.
- Against Master A., he works extremely well against, basically nothing can stop him except for other peons that may or may not get in his way, such as the Zrocos present in Pasta Desert.
- Against Mr. Mer, he has the tankiness for, but none of the stages Mr. Mer has appeared in has yet had the optimal environment for Dark Aegis Garu to work well in, so take this with a grain of salt.
- Against Camelle, is the same situation as Mr. Mer for the most part. Some stages Camelle appears in has a very bad environment for Dark Aegis Garu, such as Surviving Herd, and others like Chubby B. Goode he can work very well against Camelle in.
- Against THE SLOTH, THE SLOTH has low enough DPS to not leave that big of an impact on Dark Aegis Garu for each hit, as well as not really appearing in any problematic stages for Dark Aegis Garu.
- Against Dagshund, it is the same situation as Camelle.
- Against Celeboodle, just don't let any of them get near him due to their extremely high DPS, and Dark Aegis Garu will be perfectly fine.
- Against Otta-smack-u, it is the same situation as Camelle, just worse for Dark Aegis Garu in most cases.
- Against Wall Doge, there is really just nothing Wall Doge has that can stop him.
Common Traitless enemies that he does not good or bad against goes as follows:
- Against Bore Jr., his DPS is so high that usually Dark Aegis Garu is not what you will need for a group of them other than just stalling them for a little while, not to mention a lot of the stages Bore Jr. appears in don't require Dark Aegis Garu's tankiness and just require killing them as quickly as possible.
- Against R. Ost, extremely high DPS even for Dark Aegis Garu's tankiness, will not be able to hold his own for that long in most of the stages R. Ost appears in. However, Dark Aegis Garu can still be used as a attacker against R. Ost while dealing decent DPS.
Common Traitless enemies that he does not do good against goes as follows:
- Against Mr. Mole, invade his blindspot or get Dark Aegis Garu in a situation where he is constantly knocked back without Dark Aegis Garu being able to do much of anything.
- Against Henry, same as Mr. Mole, except a lot worse due to freeze instead of knockback.
- Against H. Nah, same as Mr. Mole except there is no longer a blindspot, therefore a lot worse.
For generalist usage, treat him similarly Maeda Keiji or Baby Cat, as he has generally similar features to them, while outdoing some of the thing Baby Cat can do, and nearly everything Keiji can do, with the added benefit of being useful without a True Form, as Keiji and Baby Cat are not good until true form. However, his recharge time for a mid-ranger makes him fall behind said Ubers. This can luckily be fixed by getting him to level 40, allowing him to be used safely as an occasional replacement.
At level 50, Dark Aegis Garu will be able to do over 10,000 DPS unstrengthened! You will not regret investing into him. Again, he’s still very hard to use over Cats in the Cradle and Immortal Keiji, and it’s all because of his long recharge and monstrous cost. Luckily, you can potentially be rewarded for your risks.
