A list of the backgrounds that appear within each version of The Battle Cats, all backgrounds are sorted by their first appearance.

Main Chapters

Empire of Cats


Typical grasswalk/overworld theme at daytime.	Dawn/dusk overworld theme.	Night overworld theme.	Snow overworld theme.

Desert overworld theme. It is not present in the Japanese version of Empire of Cats.	Beach overworld theme. It is not present in the Japanese version of Empire of Cats.	A dark cavern theme that first appears in the Moon of Empire of Cats, even though it looks nothing like the Moon´s surface. In the Japanese version, the last stage uses the dawn overworld theme instead.	The Zombie Outbreak background. A graveyard with dead trees and an eerie green sky. Also appears in certain Zombie-related Legend Stages.

Into the Future


An underwater background.	A ruined city background.	This is the background for the Moons of Into the Future. Looks like the surface of the Moon.

Cats of the Cosmos


Resembles a canyon with multiple different rock formations.	Looks like a volcanic giant factory, with lots of metal structures and some of them releasing smoke.	An underwater and pretty lightened environment, full of rock structures, seaweed and lots of other plants.	An orange- and green-toned ground with mushroom-shaped rocks. A city can be seen in the distance.	Rocky meadows covered with some plants, rocks and green- and yellow-tinted grass.

A fractured black ground with a purple-toned galaxy landscape, featuring some cube-shaped structures. First appears in Black Hole.	A fractured orange-toned ground with floating rocks and overflowing magma, you can see the universe behind. Looks similar to the previous background. Appears at the last level of Cats of the Cosmos, The Big Bang.	The sky of the next image.	A purple, spacey ground that looks like a planet, in the distance you can see a bunch of other planets with a lot of black hole-looking stars. Appears in Filibuster Invasion.	A cybernetic space station infected with some type of purple goo like substance, most likely related to the Zombie Enemies that have appeared across space. Appears in certain Zombie Outbreak stages in Cats of the Cosmos.

The Aku Realms


A corrupted mountain area with two volcanic craters seen in the distance. The sky having a purple colour gives off an eerie atmosphere.	What seems to be the bottom of a cliff, surrounded by molten lava and what looks like a never ending wall as well as a cave.	Another corrupted looking area, with multiple spikes protruding out of the ground covered by some weird looking substance, almost like goo. Appears in Moon.	A hellish and disastrous cliffside mountain, surrounded by collapsed ruins and an apocalyptic sky. Looks similar to the Tag Arena background that appears in the normal version of this stage. Appears in Mount Aku´s Invasion.

Legend Stages

Stories of Legend


A grassy background with a forest in the distance.	A volcanic-looking background with mountains in the distance.	Looks like the interior of a castle.	A run-down dungeon background.	Another volcanic background. Looks like a stone platform suspended by pillars. A common background of the Awakening Stages.

A bunch of fluffy clouds and a clear blue sky. Another common background of the Awakening Stages.	A background of what seems like a destroyed and ruined grey city, rain falls indicating the barren wasteland. A grayscale version of the Into the Future Ruined Background.	A ruinous version of the castle background. Appears in The Legend Ends.	An old laboratory containing several large test tubes, with a Relic Doge visible in the rightmost tube, and a computer monitor in the center displaying information about the creature. The doors or windows in the background are boarded up. Appears in Laboratory of Relics.	The old laboratory has now been destroyed, most likely by Idi:Re. Both tubes have been shattered and all screens display a distorted warning message. The Relic Doge is now gone from the test tube, and is participating in battle. Appears in Eldrich Forces' Invasion.

Uncanny Legends


The sky of the next image.	Outside of ancient ruins, with a city visible in the distance.	A mountainous background with some pretty vivid grass. There are several pillars, an obelisk and other structures in front of the mountains.	A volcanic ruin background, the sky is a dark tone of blue covered with dark clouds to symbolize the aftereffect of the destruction.	A deserted and destroyed Colosseum-like background, pillars and large stones are scattered across the background symbolizing the effect of abandonment and destruction.

A calm watery spring with a wooden pathway on top of it, there are lily pads surrounding the pathway with trees and mountains in the distance.	A mild setting at dawn, in the background ruins can be found scattered across the field with mountains further back.	The dark cavern has now been contaminated by what seems like some sort of relic looking aura causing the once dark cavern to now become grey.	A white and grey forest setting, the entire area feels like a wasteland that you could get lost in. Variations of this are used for Continuation stages for Gauntlets.	A strange yellow forest at dusk. Appears in the last 3 levels of Humanity Catified.

Zero Legends


	A red, spacey ground that looks like a planet, in the distance you can see a bunch of other planets with a lot of black hole-looking stars. Variant of the Filibuster Invasion background.	A black and yellow-ish version of dungeon background that is similar to backgrounds used in many Infernal Tower floors.	?

Event Stages


A halloween-themed version of the normal Zombie Outbreak background with a greyer color palette and several Jack-o'-Lanterns. Appears in the All Hallows Road stages.	A snowy forest at night with christmas lights adorning the trees. Appears in the Jolly St. Nick stages.	A forest at night with paper lanterns illuminating the scene. Appears in the Summer Diary stages.	The previous background but at dusk.	A festival in front of a school. Appears in the A Cultured Festival stages.

The previous background but at dusk.	An extremely snowy landscape with several mountains. Appears in the Cats in the Snow stages. Also appears in Silver Current.	The previous background but at night. A very grey city with an equally grey sky, resembles one of the locations in "なめすた", the game that the event is based on. Appears in the Sliming to Victory stages.	A school's running track. Appears in the Summer Lesson stages.	The previous background but at dusk.	A forest during autumn. Appears in the Silver Week stages.	The original Summer Lesson background but with a stone floor, dead trees and signboards. Appears in the Go Go Graduates! stages.

A beach at sunset. Appears in the Never Not Summer! stages. Also appears in Don't Rush Love, Shinobi Showdown and Chiefs' Smoking Area.	The Midas Touch's background, but with no gold. Appears in Cavern of Comets stages.	The inside of one of the Heavenly Tower's "boss floors". Appears in floors 30 and 40 of the Heavenly Tower, some of the Gauntlets and the top floors of each Citadel.	The dungeon background used in the previous floors, but now with dark violet lighting and a similarly coloured sky. This background appears in floors 41 through 49 of the Heavenly Tower and some event stages.	The very top of the Heavenly Tower, having some trees and other vegetation concealed in a very thick layer of fog. Appears in Floor 50 of the Heavenly Tower.

A cartoony landscape of Japan with four large figures at the back. Appeared in the Sponsorship BitSummit Memorial! stages of 2016.	The previous background but the figures are replaced by characters from Kyoutou Project. Appeared in the Sponsorship BitSummit Memorial! stages of 2018.	The previous background but the characters are replaced by a Guard Doge and a Cat Burglar from The Burgle Cats. Appeared in the Sponsorship BitSummit Memorial! stages of 2019.	A forest with presents, confetti and balloons scattered about. Appears in the Meow Meow Day and Birthday Present! stages, most notably Five Years of Fun!! and onward.	A traditional lunar festival. Appears in the Horrorpotamus Continuation Stages.	A grey version of the dungeon background, with some leaves where the now unlit torches are. Appears in floors 1 through 19 of the Infernal Tower. This background appears in Floor 30 and Floor 40 of the Infernal Tower. A variant of Heavenly Tower´s Floor 30 background.	A yellow forest. A volcanic ruin background, the sky is a dark tone of blue covered with dark clouds to symbolize the aftereffect of the destruction. Now with sparks of fire floating towards the sky. A stone pathway during the evening. Appears in the Merc Awakens (Insane), Titi Awakens (Veteran) and Healer & Co. Lv.1 through 10.	A long grass platform suspended high in the sky, several other floating landmasses can be seen in the distance. Appears in Feathered, On Holy Wings and Healer & Co. Lv.11 through 20.	A passage through a beautiful forest of sakura trees. Appears in Blade Ritual.

Survive! Mola Mola!


A pixelated view of the bottom of an ocean, with a lot of coral, rocks and fish. Appears in the Survive! Mola Mola! stages. Also appears in A Secret Cove.

Shoumetsu Toshi


A bridge with a singular street light overlooking a city. Appears in many Shoumetsu Toshi stages.	A rather unsafe road in front of a large green metropolis. Appears in The Lost World.	A wide glass platform levitating over an ocean at dawn. Appears in The World Beyond and Messier's Assault.

Monster Hunter


The bottom of a ravine. Appears in King Of The Sky・Rathalos 【Inferior】.	A high ledge that peeks into the inside of a volcano, a common habitat for Rathalos and Rathian. Appears in Proud and Strongest Couple! 【Superior】.

Metal Slug Defense


A large factory filled with lava. Appears in Jupiter King Convoy.	A warzone in a snowy tundra. Appears in Immortal Allen O'Neil.	A stormy, rocky path with numerous pillars along it. Appears in Assault! Metal Slug.

Yurudrasil


A large field. Appears in A New Mythology, Begins and The Backlash of the Gods.	A cobblestone pathway with some fences and signs nearby and a massive castle wall in the distance. Appears in Imperial City Bardia and Valhalla Battle.	A landscape above the clouds at dawn. Appears in The End is Coming?! Nyagnarok!.

Castle & Dragon


A generic plains area with a visible pathway and a forest in the distance. Appears in many Castle & Dragon stages.	The inside of what is likely the forest from the previous background, with a different darker pathway with a random curve in the middle. Appears in many Castle & Dragon stages.	A desert with a lot of cacti, silhouettes of various indian buildings can be seen far away. Appears in many Castle & Dragon stages.	A beach with flowers in the foreground and many palm trees. Appears in many Castle & Dragon stages.

Nebaaru-kun & Nyan Puzzle


A pink, pastel landscape that looks as if it was made of fabric. Appears in Protecting with Cat Puzzle and Together Protecting Cats.	An orchard with several apples laying about, some being cut in half. Appears in I'll Protect You Too Nebaaru-kun.

NEO Mushroom Garden


A small enclosure with several Funghi planted in the ground as well as a lamp and a faucet. Appears in the NEO Mushroom Garden stages.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica


A chaotic landscape filled with roses and butterflies. Appears in the Witch's Labyrinth: Rose Garden Witch stages.	A dessert themed area with food all around. Appears in the Witch's Labyrinth: Dessert Witch stages.	The sky of the next image.	A heavily stylized carnival of sorts with a caroussel ride that seems to go on forever. Appears in the Witch's Labyrinth: Box Witch stages.	A city that was absolutely demolished by Walpurgisnacht, pieces of the buildings seem to be floating. Appears in the Walpurgisnacht Gauntlet.

PPAP


A white empty void identical to the one in PPAP's original music video. Appears in PPAP.

Nazousagi


The sky of the next image.	A grayscale version of the regular overworld theme that looks like it's from a manga. Appears in A World Dominated by Mystery. Also appears in Otherworld Meadow.	The sky of the next image.	The same as the previous background but with the desert theme. Appears in Signature Lemonade and The Four Riddles. Also appears in Sinister Wasteland.	The same as the previous background but with the forest theme, the trees are also stylized. Appears in Nazo VS Helikutsu and Resolved by Physical Attack. Also appears in Otherworld Forest.

Crash Fever


A cyberspace landscape with several clouds and a large structure in the middle. Appears in the Gates of ALICE and Queen Rampant stages.	A vaporwave-like landscape with a pagoda, several flying lanterns and some floating islands with trees on them. Appears in the Moonlit City and Queen Rampant stages.

Gudetama


A dinner table, with various food such as salads, bowls of rice, slices of lemon and sushi. Appears in the Gudetama stages.

Power Pro Baseball


A baseball stadium, advertisements for PONOS, Konami and Power Pro Baseball itself are visible. Appears in Round 1 (Easy) and Round 2 (Normal).	The previous background but at dusk and without the spectators. Appears in Final Round (Hard) and No.1 Angel (Expert).	A romantic pathway along a river. Appears in Iron Will (Expert), Warm Smile (Expert), No.1 Angel (Easy) and Burning Love (Easy). Also appears in Tear-Soaked Puppy.

Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel


The outside of a building at night. Appears in the Midnight Interception, Inconspicuous Trap and Holy War: Saber stages.	The outside of a school at night. Appears in the Holy War: Lancer stages.	An expansive foggy plain with massive gears in the background and Swords implanted in the groud. Appears in the Holy War: Archer stages.	A mansion hallway with a very red color palette. Neon Genesis Evangelion


A highway passing by a city. Appears in State of Emergency, NERV, Futagoyama Fortress, Pre-fire Sequence and High-Order Energy.	The previous background but at night. Appears in I Mustn't Run Away..., Don't Say Farewell and Start by Smiling.	A plain at dawn. Appears in The 9th Angel Strikes! Stages.	A landscape near a river, with various rocks scattered about. Appears in The 10th Angel Strikes!.	A city that was presumably demolished by Awakened Eva Unit-13. Very similar to Walpurgisnacht's background, but with a red hue and a multi-colored sky. Appears in the Unit-13 Strikes!.

LINE Pokopang!


A cartoony plain near a large body of water. Appears in the LINE Pokopang! stages.

Get On! Kyoto City Subway


A Kyoto City Subway station, with three different posters in the background, the first one showing an image of Moe Uzumaza and Rei Uzumaza, the second showing cat-ified versions of the main three mascots of the subway station and the final one showing what appears to be Gross Cat's family. Appears in the Get On! Kyoto City Subway stages.	The previous background but with a train passing through it. Appears in the Get On! Kyoto City Subway stages.

Bikkuriman


An extraterrestrial cavern with various purple stalactites and stalagmites. Appears in the Yamato Awakens! stages.	A very purple landscape with dead white trees. Appears in the Bikkuriman Choco and The Devils Strike! stages.	The sky of the next image.	A cloud-like landscape with several turquoise planets in the distance. Appears in the Devilish Illusion.	A pathway on an aquaduct with various submerged and broken greek pillars nearby. Islands with castles on them can be seen in the distance. Appears in the The Angels Strike! stages.

Yuru-i GeGeGe no Kitarou: Youkai Dotabata Daisensou


A somewhat foggy plain. Appears in many Yuru-i GeGeGe no Kitarou: Youkai Dotabata Daisensou stages.	The previous background but at night and with various gravestones. Appears in many Yuru-i GeGeGe no Kitarou: Youkai Dotabata Daisensou stages.

Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Collaboration


An underground subway station with posters showing HAPPI & Maji Cat & Cat, the logos of those three can also be spotted. Appears in the Taiwanese Kaohsiung Rapid Transit stages.	A subway station passing through Kaohsiung. Appears in the Japanese Kaohsiung Rapid Transit stages.

Minna de Nyanko Daisensou

These backgrounds were exclusive to the PC version of The Battle Cats.


An overview of Tokyo, Japan atop one of the floors of a pagoda, there is a pattern of flames resembling a Cat on top of the distant mountain.	A much more detailed beach as opposed to the Empire of Cats beach overworld theme.	Exactly the same as the previous but at dawn/dusk.	Exactly the same as the first exclusive beach background, but the mountain in the background has been removed.	Exactly the same as the previous but at noon.

Exactly the same as the previous but at dawn/dusk.	Exactly the same as the first exclusive beach background, but flowers have been added to the foreground.	The castle background with pumpkins added at the bottom of the pillars.	The All Hallows Road background with a more eerie atmosphere.	The run-down dungeon background with pumpkins spread around the flooring.

A hellish type of background, there is a traditional Japanese temple in the background that has been caught on fire. On each side there are purple spikes protruding from the ground with fire in the cracks, and there is an unstable bridge leading to the temple.	A grassy field, there is a bullet train in the distance as well as a large mountain.	The surface of the Moon. A silhouette of Earth and a galaxy can be seen in the background along with a flag with a red Cat symbol indicating that The Battle Cats have taken over the moon.	A grass field with an erupting volcano in the background, there are also three birds soaring around in the sky.	An autumn field, the trees are many shades of red, orange and green. A Cat can be seen swimming in the river.
