Gold Cat (Super Rare Cat)

Not to be confused with Gold Brick Cat.

Gold Cat is a Super Rare Cat that can be unlocked by playing the Rare Cat Capsule when "Limited Edition" is part of the current pool. True Form added in Version 11.4 increases health and grants Wave Immunity.

Strategy/Usage

Gold Cat is a rather unremarkable unit on itself before True Form that can serve as an additional cheap meatshield in any stage of the game, identical to Cat, although it does have a small number of qualities that differentiate it from other equivalents. Most notably, Gold Cat has an incredibly low upgrade cost for a Super Rare to give your User Rank a small boost (Only 137,800 XP for level 30 due to scaling on Cat's values). It also has a single combo with Cat that gives you a bit of starting money, which can be serviceable in the early game until you find superior alternatives.

As with most slow meatshields, Gold Cat is most effective with staggered deployments with others to maximize their stalling potential and force enemy area attackers to destroy them one at a time, or pile up on single target threats like Cala Maria and Capy to render them helpless.

Gold Cat can be exchanged for 999,999 XP, a massive value that rivals Uber Rares, which makes it tempting in the early game where XP can be rather difficult to obtain. Regardless if you own Gold Cat or not, it's not recommended to exchange it for XP, as it's more effective to farm XP Guerrilla Stages over time, and Gold Cat is a bit hard to come by. If you already own Gold Cat, you should save any dupes and exchange them for 15 NP after clearing Chapter 3 of Into the Future. While this is the normal amount of NP for every Super Rare, Gold Cat is not worth using dupes on, whereas NP could be invested on important units.

True Form

Glittering Macho Cat gains a 50% boost to HP and complete immunity to waves. The HP boost is negligible because Glittering Macho Cat has low stats and mostly relies on being spammed. The Wave Immunity, however, is an amazing ability due to the lack of Wave-Immune meatshields, as most cheap anti-wave units are simply too expensive or difficult to acquire and it helps to strengthen your frontline in wave-heavy stages. This ability especially works in stages where your wave blockers like Octopus Cat just couldn't take the heat and you simply need wave immune units for the job, such as Heavenly Tower's Floor 30 or Infernal Tower's Floor 30, where it greatly reduces the pushing power of the main threats.

It's worth mentioning Gold Cat's True Form requires a Golden fruit, as well as three Aku fruits. While it should never be overlooked and can be well worth the exchange when you need it, you should still evaluate your priorities and consider more economical alternatives (specifically a Talented Li'l Mohawk Cat), as these rare and elusive materials are also used for certain other units that may prove more valuable for your investment.
