Growing Strange (進化の古代マタタビ) is a Catfruit gathering event that is available on all days of the week, but only for a period of time. By clearing any of the second stages, you will get an Elder Catfruit Seed, or on rare occasions, an Elder Catfruit. This event is only available after clearing Stories of Legend. All stages are listed as Merciless, but in the Japanese and Traditional Chinese versions, they were once listed as Deadly.

After completing the first stage, the player can proceed to a random Continuation Stage from the list below:
- Color of Blood (Merciless)
- Fear of Flying (Merciless)
- Hearts of Darkness (Merciless)
- Holy Wrath (Merciless)
- Galactic Threat (Merciless)
- Clash of Steel (Merciless)
- Seas of Death (Merciless)
Note: Because the second stages are all continuations, it is impossible to use Battle Items (except Speed Ups) in any stage except the first. The player also cannot change their lineup between stages. Each Continuation Stage provides the player with an Elder Catfruit Seed, while the possibility of getting an Elder Catfruit is only 1%.
