Strategy/Usage[]
Essentially an anti-Floating Sushi Cat, Kotatsu Cat serves as a wonderful shield to protect your cats from powerful Floating enemies like Teacher Bun Bun or Brollow. Likewise, provided there are purely Floating enemies in the stage, Kotatsu might be able to weaken them consistently. At level 25 and above, Sadako Cat is an unbelievably effective counter to the Perfect Cyclone as it can tank the hits, crawl straight to the blind spot and weaken the Cyclone. It can solo it in Oncoming Storm and Wrath of Red Sky, but might require additional support to dispel the Doge Darks and Trolly Bloggers. However, as a generalist tanker against non-Floating enemies, it is extremely fragile, with fairly low base stats and awkward recharge time.
Much later in the game, Kotatsu Cat excels in Adherence to Virtue, as they are essentially the only non-Uber Rare option for stalling Sage of Mind Soractes, though using their True Form for access to Talents is recommended.
True Form[]
Octopus Cat's Wave-blocking ability is the most important reason to get this True Form. Octopus becomes incredibly useful against powerful Wave Attack Enemies like Crazed Titan Cat, Manic Jamiera Cat, Manic Macho Legs, Kory and Berserkory, to name a few. Hypermaxing or boosting this unit is especially worth it, allowing it to survive longer, so that in more situations, you can send another Octopus Cat before the one on the battlefield dies. Its DPS is still pitiful even with the attack increase, and its attack rate decrease means that on certain levels without any Wave Attack enemies, Sadako is actually a better choice unless you have Octopus's Talents.
Talents[]
Defense Buff is an overall great improvement to this unit's general usefulness, as any bit of health can make the difference between a wave being released by an enemy or being stopped. Immunity to Curse makes Octopus much more effective against Relic/Floating hybrid enemies like Othom and Lowkey, but only starts to be relevant at all in Uncanny Legends, so it is best to save it for that point of the game. Improving the duration of the weaken effect is rarely going to matter due to Single Attack, plus there is competition from Sanzo Cat, who fills this niche much better.
Resist Slow and Resist Freeze should be avoided. They are expensive, sometimes counterproductive (due to its short range, Octopus works better if it stays behind to avoid wave-generating attacks) and, with the notable exceptions of Henry and Queen B, near-irrelevant, due to Octopus being a short-ranged tank. As for Croakley, his slow is too long for resistance to matter.
Orb[]
Tough Effect Up: Floating is the best choice. If you don't have it, use Defense Buff: Floating instead.

Trivia[]
- In Version 3.0 (Version 4.0 in BCJP), Kotatsu Cat received the ability to weaken Floating enemies to 50%.
- Prior to Version 4.7, Sadako Cat was a part of another Cat Combo called Electric Home.
- Even though Octopus Cat's description says that it "weakens enemies", it still only weakens Floating enemies, even though it was specified in the other forms, which may also be attributed to floating enemies being mentioned earlier in the sentence.
- Even though Octopus Cat's Catfruit evolution description says it has increased attack speed, the attack speed actually decreases.
- Sadako Cat is a reference to Sadako Yamamura, AKA Ringu, the TV-haunting ghost from the horror movie series The Ring.
- Octopus Cat is based on the takotsubo (蛸壺), a pot-like octopus trap used by fishermen.
- Octopus Cat's Japanese name contains all of the syllables from Kotatsu Cat's Japanese name:
- ねこタツ Nekotatsu (Catatsu) → ねこタコつぼ Neko Takotsubo (Cat Octopus Pot)
- In several 4Koma comics, it is shown that there are also three Cats under Kotatsu Cat's kotatsu, who enjoy the warmth under the heated table.
