Strategy/Usage
Lesser Demon Cat has single target attacks and short range. Instead, he deals devastating damage to a single target. To prevent this from being too big a problem, he should be paired with Long Distance, Wave Attack or just Area Attack Cats (such as Crazed Gross or Paris) to wipe out obstructive peons. Even then, however, it is important to understand that he is not meant for stages that spam enemies, and is more suitable for stages with more durable entities, preferably with the support of other crowd-controllers. One such example is Primitive Souls, where he can easily neutralize Dogumaru after the Dark Otters are taken out. He can also take on said Dark Otters, melting nasty peons like butter when your other units just can't cut it, but unless there are other exploitable attributes, Lesser Demon Cat will struggle a lot against enemies that outrange him.
Additionally, Lesser Demon Cat has a quick cooldown and relatively low cost, making him incredibly disposable even compared to the likes of Can Can Cat. On another note, this unit is Immune to Weaken, allowing him to be more effective when the few enemies with this ability, like Cli-One and Calamary, are on the field. Notably, if the way is clear, Lesser Demon Cat can possibly tank a Hannya hit to the face and then dish out his full devastation, able to destroy Hannya before yet another attack.
As a unit heavily reliant on stats, you should put a significant investment in his levels. This gives him more damage and more health, which can make all the difference he has on the field.
Lesser Demon also has two Cat Combos, Speak Of The Devil and Lust for Battle. Speak Of The Devil increases Accounting Power (the money gained from enemies) and thus can be very helpful in Li'l Stages and otherwise 4-crown Stories of Legend. Lust For Battle is inferior to Sister Act/Brave Cutter, Cool Japan, or Land-Air Assault in normal circumstances, but one can combine it with either Sister Act, Maeda Keiji's Choppers or even Land-Air Assault to provide the greatest base attack boost possible from Cat Combos.
True Form
The transition from Greater Demon Cat to Balrog Cat gives no new abilities, but improves his health and attack power considerably. This allows him to not lose relevance in stages and it makes him usable and rather effective against certain Advent Stages. It also grants him access to talents, further augmenting his destructive potential. It should be noted, however, that he requires a large talent investment to reach his full potential, arguably more so than any other uber.
Talents
His most important Talent is Strengthen, which can greatly increase his DPS if he lands enough hits on his final knockback. Health Up can help with that, allowing safer use in general, and Attack Up can boost his already high damage even further, to the point where he does the most DPS in the game. Balrog's Strengthen is currently the highest priority across all Uber talents in the game, and with his already high stats, the basic stat boosts are often more than what they seem.
Cost Down is another very strong Talent, though it dulls in priority compared to the stat boosts. The usual 3000¢ for Balrog is already a great deal compared to most other Uber Rare Cats, but lowering that to 2250¢ allows for one to summon him incredibly early and makes a spam of Balrogs possible with cash to spare in most stages.
Although Wave Resist makes Balrog a lot more viable against certain dangerous wave threats, these situations either necessitate the use of a Wave Shield, or preclude the possibility of using Balrog entirely due to the availability of other, more consistent units. It therefore ends up being a huge investment for not much gain.

Trivia
- Prior to Version 4.7, Lesser Demon Cat was a part of another Cat Combo called Dynamites.
- Prior to Version 5.3.1, where he became immune to weaken, Lesser Demon Cat used to be one of the few Uber Rares that lacked an ability.
- Prior to Version 6.0, the update where Awakened Bahamut Cat was given Multi-Hit, Greater Balrog Cat had the highest DPS of all Cats.
- Prior to Version 10.1 of BCJP, Lesser Demon Cat's true form name was "Balrog Cat". It was changed most likely to prevent confusion with Balrog Cat from the Street Fighter Collab, and other units named Balrog.
- Prior to Version 10.4 of BCEN, Greater Demon Cat had a typo in his description:
- "The mad cat managed to control the a demon from the netherworld. Attacks with extreme force."
- His first form's description has a typo (unnecessary a before "demon").
- When Lesser Demon Cat moves, he doesn't actually stay still, instead his sprite moves backwards to make it seem like he is still. This is more noticeable when he is slowed or has any other effect, The same is true for Kotatsu Cat.
- Lesser Demon Cat is very similar to an "Oni", a Japanese yōkai with a Kanabo as a weapon and two horns on its head.
- Balrog could be a reference to the fiery demon in The Lord of the Rings. Gandalf the Grey fought and defeated the Balrog in the abyss which lead to his ascension as Gandalf the White.
