Strategy/Usage[]
An interesting crowd-control specialist, Soractes has a wide array of abilities that do function decently, but don't mesh well together in general. His most notable quality is his very high attack speed, which allows him to easily stun-lock any vulnerable Angels through repeated attacks, buying time for your remaining units to catch up. Despite Soractes' low standing range, he can actually outrange many melee Angels, and his Omni Strike even allows him to reach those who would have outranged him like Angelic Sleipnir and create an opening. His average health and four knockbacks allow him to reposition from aggressive Angel hordes, potentially overturning a losing battle once he rejoins the fight by virtue of his very high speed. His Conjured spirit rounds up his highlights by dealing a small burst of damage and adding a secondary form of crowd-control, weakening hordes of enemies on hit to make them much more manageable.
Despite his promising strengths, Soractes is far from perfect and has a large number of weaknesses. A 0.7 second attack delay simply isn't enough to compensate for the low 30% chance to freeze Angels for less than two seconds, and more often than not it requires additional support from the likes of Ramen or Sanzo to properly bombard these targets, which completely invalidate Soractes' utility against melee Angels when they could already get the job done. The reliance on Omni Strike is also what makes him inconsistent, as he can still have a hard time hitting ranged Angels that he's meant to counter, or fail to outright maintain the freeze even if he does get a hit, and when that happens he has no means with which to properly defend himself. Sage Slayer, while potentially useful against Tarsiriel, still has limited applications in most of the game. Finally, much like Doron, it is worth mentioning the Conjure mechanic can also take some practice to get the timing right, as it is only available once per cycle.

Appearance[]
- Normal Form: A distorted elderly figure with a hollow face sitting with a thinking posture on a small island with a column. On top of the column resides a Cat emblem, replacing the hexagonal gem on his enemy form's column. Attacks by shooting a beam from the emblem, causing a small explosion.
- Evolved Form: Same as Normal Form, but the himation is darker and there's a laurel floating on top of the figure. The arms have grown muscles resembling bracelets. The column's top and emblem have more details, and the ionic style of the emblem has been replaced with wings.

Trivia[]
- Soractes' name may be a portmanteau of 空 sora (sky/the air, correlating with his enemy form's Floating trait) and Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher. While Soractes' Japanese name is written in katakana, the kanji 空 can also be read as kara or kū, meaning emptiness or the void/aether element in godai, a set of five elements in Japanese Buddhist philosophy.
- Continuing with the topic of philosophy, his pose is seemingly based on the famous 20th century sculpture of The Thinker, or on this statue of Socrates.
- In real life, Socrates was known to have had an upturned nose and bulging eyes, yet Soractes ironically has neither.
- Soractes' seemingly empty head may allude to "I know that I know nothing," a famous saying widely attributed to Socrates.
- This saying is directly referenced in Master of Mind Catcrates' Korean description, which states that all he knows about cats is that he knows nothing about them.
- He and Daybreaker Izanagi were the first units to receive the Conjure ability.
- He and Ultra Talented Joyful Nurse Cat are the first units to have the Sage Slayer ability.
- The line, "Recently noticed that 'Nyanko' sounds similar to 'Chanko'," in Master of Mind Catcrates's Japanese description is a reference to the Japanese version of the Empire of Cats opening, in which the narrator makes the same observation.
- Master of Mind Soractes' preview shown when entering Legend Stages incorrectly says "Stage Clear Bonus 10" instead of "Stage Clear Bonus 11"; the actual 10th clear bonus is Ancient Egg: N000.
