Mekako Saionji (Uber Rare Cat)

Mekako Saionji is an Uber Rare Cat that was added in Version 4.0 and can be unlocked by playing the Rare Cat Capsule during the Dark Heroes event. True Form added in Version 5.5 gains massive damage against Aliens and a 100% chance to slow Aliens. Talents were added in Version 8.2.

Strategy/Usage

Mekako has drastically changing gameplay styles throughout each of her forms, each one serving an anti-Alien role. She doesn't have any stat changes between forms, so if you're using her for generalist purposes it's best to use her first form for the ability to survive.

Speaking of those generalist purposes, she is replaceable, but 4.7k DPS and 445 range is enough to get things done. You don't need to use her as a generalist, but you shouldn't avoid doing so either. She's pretty decent!

Normal Form

Mekako in her normal gear functions as a tanker. Unlike the other forms, this one targets an additional trait, that being Black. While tanking Aliens can be hard when you don't have immunities, and tanking Blacks is hard when you're able to be crushed easily, she definitely works. Her Survive ability is especially good in this form, allowing her to continue using her DPS. Overall, a decent anti-Alien/anti-Black.

Evolved Form

Mekako changes her usage from a tanker to a crowd-controller. While knocking back Aliens sounds troublesome, Mekako also has a chance to weaken them. That, and given her good enough range and lack of slow ability, makes her less likely to suffer the problems faced by Marinmizu. That ability still doesn't make her viable against Aliens, so all in all, this is the weakest of Mekako's forms.

True Form

Mekako, now with a better crowd-controlling ability, also gets massive damage to aliens as well. Her great range and better abilities make her a beast against Aliens. This True Form is certainly one worth getting, mainly because of the better compatibility with Aliens. Arguably, the compatibility is spectacular instead of just "better", and Mekako can easily become a go-to anti-Alien.

Talents

While giving Mekako Knockback again stiffens a whole lot of usage, giving her weaken and survive back sure doesn't. In fact, now she has the chance to become the ultimate crowd-controlling anti-Alien. Slow, combined with massive damage, combined with potential weaken gives her such good usage against Aliens that it's absurd. She has enough distance to avoid certain enemies with Warp, so her viability against Starred Aliens is also very good.

Because her generalist usage was decent to begin with, the Attack and Defense Buffs won't go to waste, even if the NP may be better spent elsewhere. It's worth getting the True Form for what it offers, but the Talents make it even more worth it.

Appearance

• Normal Form: A girl with a wrench and a cat on her head riding a mech, the body of which is made out of what seems to be a truck, rockets and cannons. The girl's shirt appears to be undone. Attacks by launching missiles.
• Evolved Form: Mekako now wears an outfit which slightly resembles her original one, but now looks more like a pilot and has darker clothes. She now holds a screwdriver. The mech is taller, fancier, has four jet fans, takes on a darker color scheme and attacks by firing plasma out of the fans.
• True Form: The mech now resembles a spacecraft, and attacks by launching a rocket. The cat riding on her head now floats behind the mech on a cable, while Mekako herself now has a spacesuit on.

Trivia

• Prior to Version 4.7, Mekako Saionji was a part of three other Cat Combos: Overhaul, Just Us League and Revengers.
• She is the one of the few Dark Heroes not to contain a reference to darkness in their Evolved Form's name.
• Her Normal Form is one of the only units to have their abilities separated by a period in their description.
• Both Mission Control Mekako and Inferno Akira regain their prior forms' abilities through Talents.
• According to one of the Gamatoto Expedition log messages, Mekako has a workshop.
• The name Mekako is a portmanteau of メカ meka, meaning "mechanic", and 子 ko, a suffix commonly used in female Japanese given names.
• In all three forms, the mech's overall shape is similar to the combined Pilaf Machines from Dragon Ball.
• Mechanix Monthly may be a reference to the science and technology magazine Mechanix Illustrated.
