Strategy/Usage[]
Normal/Evolved Form[]
Prior to True Form, Mer-Cat fails to properly serve her purpose, as many Floating Enemies are powerful melee pushers, and she cannot outrange them, not to mention her single target. She can still shine in certain stages such as Attack on W-Cyclone due to her high damage, though it is wise to get her True Form as soon as possible.
True Form[]
With area attacks, higher health and much better range, Cameraman Cat becomes an extremely efficient DPS unit against Floating enemies. A big enough stack of them will reduce even the mighty Teacher Bun Bun and most of his variants to rubble, as well as many short-ranged floating enemies like Shy Boy. Her overall great stats, outside of speed, make her an excellent, low investment midrange attacker for all sorts of grounded enemies too. With proper meatshielding, she can be extremely useful in stages such as Head Shaker, Tiny Horns and Lots O' Lion as she can quickly accumulate DPS and these single target enemies often have trouble breaking through a huge stack of them if they ever get past your meatshields.
Cameraman can also work great as a ranged meatshield against Dolphina or Wave Attackers like Dober P.D.; she will stack up damage while either staying in a blindspot or far enough from the enemy to not give them the chance to attack and release the waves often.
Research UP Combos like Biohazard and Bony Bone can be used to make Cameraman Cat even more spammable than she already is, sometimes resulting in an impassable wall of strong attacks. Keep in mind, however, that she will drain money faster, especially if you use a CPU.
Talents[]
Since Cameraman relies on both offense and defense, the Attack Buff, Health Buff and Survive talents directly contribute in making this unit much better; boost her with + levels and catseyes as well though, for these talents will not do much on their own.
Cameraman's Critical Hit is also fairly cheap and allows for very strong hits being landed on Metal enemies every once in a while, although due to the mere 2% chance, it is not clever to rely on her as your only anti-metal. If you know what to expect from a stage, bring another crit. hitter, a combo to increase crit chance or something to stall the metal army enough for crits to reliably come out.
Wave Resistance can allow a stack of Cameramen to tank stray waves much better, making them especially powerful against Pigeon De Sable and Bore Jr. Waves are normally dangerous for a slow unit who relies on stacking in great numbers, so cutting their damage is highly beneficial.
Orb[]
Such a multi-purpose unit would benefit from any attack or defence up orb to a degree, but it's recommended for you to improve her effectiveness with a Floating Strong Up Orb.

Trivia[]
- Prior to Version 4.7, Mer-Cat was a part of two other Cat Combos: Princes Wanted and Helmetheads.
- In Mer-Cat's description "a mermaid who came onshore to meet a prince" could be a reference to Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
- The Japanese description of Commando Cat is also a reference to the plot, where in pursuit of the prince, the mermaid, aided by an enchantress, exchanged her voice for legs, enabling her to walk on land.
