Muddy Fjord is the fourth stage in Cats Cradle Basin. This stage is a remake of Moon in Into the Future Chapter 2. Corrupted Valkyrie and Devil Wife make their first appearances in Zero Legends here.

While this is largely a remake of Into the Future Chapter 2's Moon, there are some key differences.

The first is that a single buffed Elizabeth the LVIth spawns on a timer regardless of base health. This means that the player can stall to wait for her and take her out without any of the supporting enemies. While she does take over 2 minutes to spawn, it can greatly alleviate the pressure of the boss wave. Killing Elizabeth is also made easier by the fact that the main boss wave is separate from the 99% trigger for Devil Wife spawns; Cats left behind from dealing with the first Shadow Boxer K can be quickly wiped out by their death Surges.

The second, and more important, difference, is the presence of non-Alien enemies, namely Fallen Bear, Devil Wife, and Loris. Infinite Devil Wives spawn, though only a single Fallen Bear and Loris are present. The inclusion of Devil Wives effectively requires Surge-immune units, as their Surges can tear through non-immune defenses with terrifying ease. Fallen Bear is troublesome because of the presence of tough frontliners and a Shield that few units can brute-force or pierce as a result. Loris is also a troublesome backliner, providing some chip damage but mostly serving to curse the Cats who would need to control the Aliens. Aku Doge is also here, but is mostly just another peon among much stronger threats.

Finally, only a limited number of enemies spawn before the base is hit. This means that stalling at the start, while still possible, may be more difficult.

Stone Cat is great for temporarily stopping the enemies, especially in the aftermath of a Devil Wife surge. Doron can hit the backlines and hit a large amount of peons at once while freezing Loris. Awakened Naala is not likely to survive long due to her standing range and the pushing power of the enemies, but can do a lot of damage to Loris in the time that she's alive. Luza doesn't do anything special, but will do major damage to Loris should Luza manage to hit it. Once Loris is down, thus dealing with the problem of it hitting your backlines and Cursing your crowd control units, the stage becomes a good deal easier, as it's easier to reach Fallen Bear with your Shield Piercers and slowing/freezing Corrupted Valkyrie is more feasible.

Strategy 1 (4 Crown Restrictions)[]

Lineup: Biohazard, Bony Bone, Little Warriors, Li'l Eraser Cat 50+29, Ramen Cat 50+25, Kinjirou Cat 50, Cat Mask Doron 50, Awakened Urs 50, Ape Lord Luza 50

Items: Sniper Cat, Speed Up

  • Cameraman Cat is a pure combo slave, and should NOT be send out in this stage.
  • Rich Cat (item) is absolutely NOT needed.
  • Li'l Eraser Cat has the HP up MAX talent.
  • Ramen Cat has the HP up MAX talent.
  • Cat Mask Doron is preferable to Awakened Doron since you need every bit of damage to hit Loris early on.
  • Speed Up is not necessary.

This strategy can be quite difficult and time consuming. Caution is advised.

Lure the Shadow Boxer K to your base, then send out Kinjirou Cat, then Ape Lord Luza. Keep spamming, then stop when all the enemies are dead. The Kinjirou Cat stack should activate the 99% enemy wave, which can bring you a lot of money. This wave should get you around MAX wallet. Elizabeth the LVIth should spawn, and this is the easiest an most annoying part of the level. Simply spam Kinjirou Cat and send an occasional Cat Mask Doron to chip down Elizabeth the LVIth(Don't worry about Ape Lord Luza, he should die around here). Once Elizabeth the LVIth is dead, spam out all your slow units (except Awakened Urs), and keep building up money. Once you are around 3/4 of the way to the base, start spamming Kinjirou Cat and send out Awakened Urs.

The base should trigger, and with that comes a wave of Aku Doges and Corrupted Valkyrie. Ape Lord Luza, and his strange attack animation, is actually really good at countering Aku Doges with a single strike, but be careful, as you do not want Ape Lord Luza to die here. After the initial wave of Aku peon spam, there should be some LeMurrs, a Fallen Bear, a Loris, and some Imperator Saels. Your meatshields should be able to fend off the horde for long enough for Ape Lord Luza and Awakened Urs to chip down the frontline and Loris. Cat Mask Doron should also be able to keep Loris in place for Ape Lord Luza to hit them, and to chip the frontline as well.

If both Ape Lord Luza and Awakened Urs are dead, slow down on the meatshield spam. Hopefully at this point, Loris and some of the aliens are dead, at which point, Kinjirou Cat alone should be able to stall the entire battlefield until either Ape Lord Luza or Awakened Urs come back. Once one of them are back in the frontline, start spamming your meatshields again at full force. Once Fallen Bear is dead, you will have won.

  • Muddy Fjord's Japanese name, Doromamire Keiryū (泥まみれ渓流), can be translated as "Muddy Mountain Stream", but is also a pun on dorokei, a Japanese variation of tag in which players are split into two groups: cops and robbers. When a robber is caught by a cop, they are taken to a pre-determined location that serves as a "prison" and remain there for the rest of the game unless tagged by another robber, freeing them. The game ends when everyone on the robbers' team is imprisoned.
  • In all versions except BCJP, Muddy Fjord can be considered Devil Wife's first appearance overall, as Attack of the Omens was not released outside of Japan until May 22nd, 2023, while Cats Cradle Basin was made available worldwide on May 17th.
  • While Corrupted Valkyrie technically has a higher buff here than in her first appearance, this magnification is an illusion. She has 1,666,665 HP and 21,000 attack in this stage. With the Treasures obtainable by her first appearance and none of the Chapter 3 Treasures being accessible at that point, the Corrupted Valkyrie in that stage would have those exact same stats.
