Puffer Planet (Merciless) is an Advent Stage appearing on the 13th, 14th, 27th, and 28th of every month. When clearing this stage, the player has a chance to unlock Mightycat. Unlike other Advent Stages, it is only unlocked after clearing Chapter 2 of Cats of the Cosmos. This is a No Continues stage.

Strategy[]

Due to the massive buffs on the Starred Aliens (particularly the Star Pengs), it is highly recommended if not outright required to max out all your Anti-Starred Alien Treasures before attempting this stage. Even missing one Treasure set will lead to each Star Peng having 672,000 health and 36,000 attack power, making them nigh-unbeatable without a cheese strategy or certain Uber Rare Cats.

The Enigma Fruit Treasures also help greatly, allowing Chill Cat and other units with massive damage to Aliens to deal up to 33% more damage (Chill Cat's Cost Down Talent is mandatory) and to allow Catellite to barely survive Puffsley's Comet's attack if upgraded to level 40. Speaking of which, Catellite is one of your best friends here, being able to absorb 3~5 Star Peng hits depending on level. Use it with Manic Eraser Cat as meatshields. Can Can Cat and Maglev Cat are also great damage units, with Maglev being able to rush forward and hit twice when warped.

There are 3 main ways to play this stage:

  1. Survive and kill the initial 12 main Star Pengs using whatever units you may have, such as Catellite, Chill Cat, Can Can Cat and Maglev Cat, then finish off the supporting enemies. Shown in the first video under "Walkthrough".
  2. Cheese the stage using Healer Cat CC. Shown in the second video.
  3. Use Awakened Bahamut Cat or one of the Ubers listed below to lure and kill / severely damage Puffsley's Comet before support company arrives, making him a lot easier to fight.

Recommended Ubers[]

The following Uber Rares/Legend Rares are good for this stage, and if you have any of these, using them will make things easier.

  • Bazibon: Bazibon has exceptional offense and defense against Aliens, allowing it to both lay a dent in Puffsley as well as soak up some hits. Make sure to keep it at a distance from the Cat Base, as Puffsley's Comet's Omni Strike may still hit said base.
  • Greater Balrog: Greater Balrog's extreme damage when talented makes him very useful in getting rid of Star Pengs and you can replace him when needed to be with his low cooldown. Puffsley's long attack animation gives him a few opportunities to attack, which can make all the difference, and when strengthened at higher levels, can cripple Puffsley in even one hit. His low range however means you must support him with Warp Immune units so the Star Pengs can't get to him.
  • Aphrodite: The classic Alien nuker. She can make quick work of Puffsley's Comet as well as control a ton of the Alien support. Be careful to stall Puffsley's Comet so he doesn't enter Aphrodite's blind spot.
  • Sharpshooter Saki: Serves the same purpose as Aphrodite, albeit with less DPS, and the Target Only doesn't matter in this stage, as it is purely Aliens anyway.
  • Luminalia: A high level Luminalia is effectively invincible on this stage. She destroys Corporal Weyland's barriers, is immune to warp, and will halve enemy damage with 100% uptime. Be careful however, she still gets knocked back by Puffsley, so you can still lose if she gets pushed behind your own base.
  • Lufalan Pasalan: This unit can outrange all enemies in the stage (720 range, Puffsley's Omni Strike hits up to 550, whereas Corporal Weyland's Long Distance hits up to 600) and deals extreme damage, melting the durable peons and the boss quickly. You'll need lots of support and pair it with Area Attackers due to its single-target attacks, so it gets the chance to kill off the annoying enemies.
  • Mad Doctor Klay: Attacks only Aliens in an Alien-only stage. Make sure to avoid hitting Puffsley and triggering his attacks, as the knockback effect can easily displace this unit. While Klay might not be able to solo Puffsley, he definitely makes dealing with Puffsley and the support much easier.
  • Ganglion: Ganglion is strong against aliens and can deal some serious damage, as well as being able to hit the backline with his Long Distance if positioned correctly. Because most of his attack delay consists of backswing, he can easily abuse the Warp and Knockback effects of the enemies to reset his animation. Just make sure to watch your money before you send him out, as he's pretty expensive and may leave you without enough funds to deploy meatshields.
  • Gravolodon: Resists aliens, warp immune, 100% chance to destroy barriers and create level 4 wave attacks. Chips down the Backline and Puffsley, as well as tanking a lot of hits from Puffsley. His cooldown is quite fast for a tank, so you'd often have more out if and when the first one is destroyed. Gravolodon doesn't work alone and the waves can constantly reset Puffsley's backswing, so pick your support wisely.
  • Gigavolta: Can easily keep the Star Pengs and Puffsley at bay with its powerful Freeze, as well as having the health and warp immunity to survive a few hits. Its cooldown and cost aren't bad either, so if it goes down early, another will be ready soon.
  • Doktor Heaven/Professor Abyss: This unit targets Aliens and has good range, with Insanely Tough/Insane Damage abilities depending on form that allows it to serve as either a tank or attacker. However, as it lacks any Immunities and has a very long cooldown, it works far better as an Attacker to whittle down the tanky frontline threats, as it cannot outrange Puffsley's Omni Strikes.

Trivia[]

  • The name Blue Impact may be reference to the movie Deep Impact as they have similar names and for the fact that the movie features a meteorite which is very reminiscent of Puffsley's Comet.
  • Puffer Planet's Japanese name, River Pig Planet (リバーピッグプラネット), might be a reference to the LittleBigPlanet (リトルビッグプラネット) series of games.
  • This stage was altered in Version 9.1. Before the update:
    • Puffsley's Comet spawned after 10 seconds;
    • Project A spawned after 1 minute;
    • The first wave of Star Pengs appeared after 3.3 seconds and had a delay of 20-23.3 seconds between each Star Peng;
    • The second wave of Star Pengs appeared after 90 seconds and had a delay of 16.7-20 seconds between each Star Peng;
    • The third wave of Star Pengs appeared after 163.3 seconds and had a delay of 13.3-6.7 seconds between each Star Peng;
    • The final wave of Star Pengs appeared after 223.3 seconds and had a delay of 33.3-40 seconds between each Star Peng.
  • For all intents and purposes, Puffer Planet is treated as a Deadly stage, despite being labeled Merciless.
    • The event poster (shown above) says, "Deadly Stage!"
    • It is the only Merciless Advent Stage to award a gold Meow Medal rather than platinum.
    • The star difficulty after 10.7 is ★9 like the Deadly Advent Stages, rather than ★10 or ★11 like the Merciless ones.
    • It is the only Merciless Advent Stage to be part of the limited Catnip Challenges that involve beating Advents with restrictions.
    • It is the only Merciless Advent Stage to be part of a Dual Advent Stage, appearing as a Continuation Stage in The Dead & The Bloated.
    • Puffsley's Comet is the only Merciless Advent Boss to appear in Heavenly Tower and Infernal Tower, which otherwise only contain the Deadly Advent Bosses.
      • The Merciless tag may be because of the Starred Aliens' strength magnifications, as lowering them to meet the standards of a Deadly stage would have made it too easy with all Anti-Starred Alien Treasures.
