Shiro Amakusa (Uber Rare Cat)

Shiro Amakusa is an Uber Rare Cat that can be unlocked by playing the Rare Cat Capsule during the Sengoku Wargods Vajiras event. He was added in Version 10.8. True Form added in Version 11.9 increases his health and decreases the time between attacks.

Strategy/Usage

Shiro is a backline attacker with fairly standard base stats and an inconvenient multi-hit timing, making him good mainly for tanky enemies without much range, but rather unreliable once enemies with long range and/or many knockbacks come into play. His massive damage ability is still an effective weapon against both Black and Aku enemies, as he outranges many of them, although against both of his target traits he has his own issues against each. He does enough damage to stagger Blacks, but his multi-hits are too closely spaced, hence reducing his damage output as he'll just miss, and with his slow attack rate, he might not be able to catch the Black threats in time. Aku threats are a bit different, as his Surge Immunity dismisses their common gimmick and can be paired with Surge-Immune meatshields, but Shields often put his performance into question. It's perfectly fine against threats with very tough shields, as despite lacking Shield Piercing, he can land all his hits and deal serious damage to them anyway. For weaker Shields that he can break before landing his final hit, Amakusa can potentially land a powerful blow, which is usually enough to finish weaker Aku threats. Unfortunately, those that easily survive, such as Fallen Bear and Vermilingua Rangmaster, can abuse this to regenerate their Shields and dramatically increase their overall health, so he still requires a fair bit of support with Shield Piercers.

True Form

Immortal Amakusa gains higher health and a substantially faster attack rate. The former is always good to have, though not by much with the relatively small increase as Amakusa relies on his range and Surge Immunity to stay safe. On the other hand, the attack rate boost does not solve any existing problems Amakusa had, but does provide a major increase to his utility as he is able to inflict much more damage overall. With how aggressive Black and certain Aku enemies tend to push, his faster attack rate allows him to catch threats that are knocked back in time and reduces their chances of reaching him, and the DPS increase becomes even higher on enemies that don't flinch easily from attacks.

Additionally, Immortal Amakusa gains an accounting combo with Manic Jamiera Cat and Awakened Musashi which increases resource drops from enemies by 30%, a high number relative to its slot count. If you don't mind the expensive evolution costs of Musashi and Amakusa, this True Form could turn useful even if just for the combo.

Appearance

• Normal Form: Machinery covered by a cape. A masked head stands on top, and behind it is a sort of mechanical halo with a Cat affixed to it. It gets pushed forward by a large gear behind it. Attacks when the cape is lifted, revealing a glowing yellow "heart" that also causes the halo to glow. The glow from the halo then drifts in front of the machine and explodes three times.
• Evolved Form: Looks similar, but the cape is darker, older and more tattered. The mask has two large spiky wings on its sides and is now impaled on a large stake. The gears and halo are also darker, and gain a more jagged appearance, along with the Cat on the halo now looking crazed. Attacks the same, but the "heart" is broken, and the light is purple.
• True Form: Gets an even more grim and jagged look, along with infernal blue flames spewing from various parts of the machinery. The stake is decorated with a few purple gems as well. The halo gains wings, and exactly half white and half black, and the Cat now looks brainwashed. Attack remains the same.

Trivia

• Amakusa Shirō was the teenage leader of the Shimabara Rebellion. Though taken captive, executed and beheaded at the age of 17, he was able to say: "I shall return after 100 years and take my revenge!" as his last words before dying.
  • After his death, Shirō's head was displayed on a pike in Nagasaki as a warning to Christian rebels, which could explain why Wargod Amakusa's mask is embedded in a sword- or stake-shaped object.
