Revision as of 02:46, 3 June 2020

Listed here are all the special abilities in The Battle Cats. The effects of some abilities can be improved by getting the Fruit Treasures or the activation of certain Cat Combos.

Attack Types

Single Attack

Single Attack
Single Target JP
Only one unit within range will be hit by this Unit's attacks.

Units with this ability will only damage the closest target in their range. If two targets are at the same distance, a random one takes the damage. For these reasons, units with this ability and Long Distance who reach the enemy base will only be able to hit said base, unless an enemy is perfectly aligned with the base; even then, the chance to hit said enemy is never guaranteed.

For a full list of Cats with Single Attack, see here.

Area Attack

Area Attack
Area Attack JP
All units within the unit's set attack field will take damage from its strikes.

Units with this ability will damage all enemies in range.

For a full list of cats with Area Attack, see here.

Long Distance

Long Distance
Long Distance JP
Units at long distance will receive damage but attacks may miss units at closer range.

Cats and enemies with this ability are able to attack at uber long distance and even hit enemies outside their attack range (since the majority of these units have Area Attacks), but cannot harm any unit that is close enough to them, rendering them virtually unable to damage anyone close unless said unit is knocked back into their range again. When close to the base of the enemies, units with this ability will stop at their minimum effective range rather than the standing range.

Example: Nerd Cat (attack range: 1200; effective range: 1100~1500)

For a full list of Long Distance cats, see here.

Omni Strike

This ability was added in BCJP 6.10.
Epicability3
EpicabilityJP3
Attacks enemies both ahead and behind unit in a wide area.

This ability is similar to Long Distance, but it allows a unit's attacks to hit enemies behind it in addition to the enemies ahead of it, which is primarily used for hitting Zombies that burrow past your units. The problem is that Omni Strike only damages enemies behind if an enemy ahead is also within attack range. When close to the base of the enemies, units with this ability will stop at their maximum effective range rather than the standing range.

For a full list of Omni Strike cats, see here.

Initial Abilities

Strong Against

Strong Against
Indicated enemy types will take extra damage with damage received from that type also reduced.

One of the more commonly-seen abilities within the Cat Units. Units with this ability will deal 1.5x damage and only take 0.5x damage from said enemy type. The Fruit Treasures increase the effect of this ability against certain enemy types to 1.8x damage dealt and 0.4x damage taken.

This ability is affected by "Strong" Effects.

For a full list of cats with the "Strong Against" ability, see here.

Massive Damage

Massive Damage
Indicated enemy types will take much more damage from unit attacks.

Cat Units with this ability will inflict triple damage to certain types of enemies. The Fruit Treasures increase the effect against certain enemy types to quadruple damage.

This ability is affected by "Massive Damage" Effects.

For a full list of cats with the "Massive Damage" ability, see here.

Resistant

Resistant
Damage received from indicated enemy types will be reduced significantly.

Cat Units with this ability take only 1/4 of an enemy's total damage, making them extremely durable against the type of enemy listed. The Fruit Treasures reduce the damage taken from certain enemy types to 1/5. Units with the Resistant ability usually have enormous HP pools.

This ability is affected by "Resistant" Effects.

For a full list of cats with the "Resistant" ability, see here.

Knockback

Knockback
Unit has a set chance to push indicated enemy types back towards their base.

Some cats and enemies have this ability; the default and Breakerblast Cat Cannons also have this effect, but on a smaller scale (the knockback isn't as long as the unit ability). Cat Units with this ability can push a specific type or all enemies back regardless of damage dealt, while enemy units with this ability can push back all Cat Units. This ability usually only activates a set percentage of the time, varying between units. This effect is different than damage based knockbacks and iscompletely independent; this will also be entirely overwritten by a damage based knockback if both are caused by the same attack. The Fruit Treasures increase the knockback distance.

This ability is affected by "Knockback" Effects.

For a full list of cats with the "Knockback" ability, see here.

Slow

Slow
Indicated enemy types will have their speed reduced for a set amount of time.

Any units with this ability can slow the other side's units from advancing the battlefield, and units affected will move at the speed value of 1 (15px per second) temporarely. The Fruit Treasures increase the duration of this effect against certain enemy types by 20%.

This ability is affected by "Slow" Effects.

For a full list of cats that can Slow enemies, see here.

Freeze

Freeze
Indicated enemy types will become unable to move for a set amount of time.

Any units with this ability can stop the other side's units from advancing the battlefield. Units affected by the effect will be frozen for period of the time and any attack animation will be halted. This ability depends on the success chance and the duration of the effect varies between units. The Fruit Treasures increase the duration of this effect against certain enemy types by 20%.

This ability is affected by "Freeze" Effects

For a full list of cats that can Freeze enemies, see here.

Extra Money

Extra Money
Money rewards from defeating indicated enemy types will be increased.

Cat Units with this ability double the amount of money gained from defeating an enemy.

Cat Combos like IT Crowd and Speak of the Devil allow all units to have a smaller scale of this ability.

For a full list of cats with the "Extra Money" ability, see here.

Base Destroyer

Base Destroyer
If this unit is attacking an enemy Base its attacks will do much more damage.

Specific to certain enemies; these enemy units inflict much more damage when attacking your Cat Base (4x damage). Warlock and Pierre is the first and only Cat Unit to have this ability.

Critical

Critical
Attacks by this unit have a set chance of extra damage that can hurt Metal enemies.

Cats and enemies with this ability can sometimes do a Critical Hit. Critical Hits ignore a Metal enemy's (or your Metal Cat's) ability of "one hit = 1 damage" and inflict two times the damage, regardless of enemy type.

For a full list of cats that can perform Critical Hits, see here.

Trivia

  • This ability's icon was changed in version 8.9.
    OldCritical

    Pre-8.9 icon

Wave Attack

Wave Attack
Attacks will strike all enemies in range, delivering extra damage from the energy wave released.

Cats or enemies with this ability can sometimes create Shockwaves, but only when their attack connects with a foe. The number of wave segments depends on the unit's ability level while the damage is equal to a normal attack. Shockwaves do not inflict damage to either side's base. Shockwaves are purple if emitted by cats and blue otherwise. Any effect of the regular attack is also given to the wave.

Units with the "Resist Wave" ability take reduced damage from Shockwaves. Units with the "Immune to Waves" ability ignore Shockwaves. Units with the "Wave Shield" ability ignore Shockwaves and prevent them from harming any cats behind the unit.

For a full list of cats that can use wave attacks, see here.

Attacks Only

Attacks Only
Attacks by this unit will only cause damage to a specific type of enemy target.

Cat Units with this ability will only attack enemy bases and a specific type of enemies. To balace things out, they tend to have better base stats.

Example: Takeda Shingen (only attacks bases, Black Enemies and Alien Enemies)

For a full list of cats with the "Attacks Only" ability, see here.

After BCJP 4.0

Into the Future was added along with these abilities.

Strengthen

Strengthen
After this unit's health falls below a set amount its attacks grow much stronger.

Units with this ability can increase their own attack power. This ability is triggered when the unit reaches a certain amount of health (see Ursamajor, for example) The effect persists until the unit's death.

This ability is affected by "Strengthen" Effects.

For a full list of cats with the "Strengthen" ability, see here.

Weaken

Weaken
Indicated enemy types will have their attack power reduced for a set period.

Cats and enemies with this ability have a chance to decrease an enemy's base damage or a Cat Unit's base damage, respectively. Effectiveness and duration vary from unit to unit. The Fruit Treasures increase the duration of this effect against certain types of enemies by 10%.

This ability is affected by "Weaken" Effects.

For a full list of cats that can Weaken enemies, see here.

Survive

Survive
After this unit's health falls below zero, it may heal itself by a small amount.

Cats or enemies with this ability can sometimes survive a lethal strike based on a percentage chance. Instead of dying, they are knocked back with 1 HP left. Some cats with this ability are Mer-Cat, Kai, Pogo Cat and Surfer Cat.

For a full list of cats with the "Survive" ability, see here.

Immune to Waves

Immune to Waves
This unit does not take damage from Wave attacks.

Shockwave damage is completely ignored by this ability. When hit by a Shockwave attack, units with this ability will briefly have a small blue shield icon appear beside them, indicating that they have taken no damage from the Shockwave.

Anubis the Protector is the first Cat Unit to have this ability.

For a full list of cats that are Unharmed by Waves, see here.

Metal

Metal
Damage from most attacks is reduced significantly, but the unit will remain vulnerable to Critical strikes.

Cats and enemies with this ability take only 1 damage per hit. Toxic damage and Critical Hits ignore this ability.

Metal Cat and Glass Cat are currently the only Cat Units to have this ability.

The Iron Wall Cat also has this ability.

Immune to Knockback

This ability was added in BCJP 5.3.
Knockback Immunity
Enemy attacks will not cause this unit to be knocked back.

Cats with this ability are unaffected by the enemies' Knockback abilities, such as Super Metal Hippoe's. They can still be knocked back from having their health fall below a certain amount. Upon being hit with an attack that normally inflicts knockback, cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

For a full list of cats that are Immune to Knockback, see here.

Immune to Slow

This ability was added in BCJP 5.3.
Slow Immunity
Enemy attacks will not cause slowdown against this unit.

Cats with this ability cannot be slowed down by enemies whose attacks cause slowness, like Sunfish Jones. Upon being hit with a slowing attack, cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

For a full list of cats that are Immune to Slow, see here.

Immune to Freeze

This ability was added in BCJP 5.3.
Freeze Immunity
Enemy attacks will not freeze the movement of this unit.

Cats with this ability are cannot be frozen by enemies such as Maawth. Upon being hit with a freezing attack, cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

For a full list of cats that are Immune to Freeze, see here.

Immune to Weaken

This ability was added in BCJP 5.3.
Weaken Immunity
Enemy attacks will not weaken the attacks of this unit.

Cats with this ability cannot be weakened by enemies whose attacks weaken units, like Calamary. Upon being hit with a weakening attack, cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

For a full list of cats that are Immune to Weaken, see here.

Wave Shield

This ability was added in BCJP 5.6.
Wave Shield
This Unit can negate Wave Attacks and protect units behind them from their effect.

Cats with this ability are not only immune to all Shockwave damage, but will also cancel the Shockwave on contact. Any unit behind the Wave Shield will not be harmed by the Shockwave. Upon being hit with a Shockwave, Cats with this ability will briefly display a clear hexagonal barrier in front of them to indicate that the wave had been cancelled. Since the entire "section" of the wave that hit the unit with wave shield is nullified, some units in front have a chance to be protected too.

For a full list of cats with the "Wave Shield" ability, see here.

Burrow

This ability was added in BCJP 5.6.

An ability exclusive to Zombie enemies. Enemies with this ability will burrow underground when a Cat enters their range. Before going underground, enemies will perform a brief animation which leaves them vulnerable; if knocked back during this animation, their burrow will be cancelled.

Underground enemies are invulnerable until they resurface, which happens after reaching the Cat Base or after a certain amount of time depending on the enemy. As of 9.6, Znache and Zir Zeal have the longest burrow duration (1500f), while Zroco has the shortest (375f). Enemies will move at their normal speed while underground[verification needed], even if the Slow effect was applied beforehand. Most enemies can only burrow once, but The Thrillerz can burrow up to two times, and Miss Haka and Big Sal can burrow as many times as they please.

Revive

This ability was added in BCJP 5.6.

This ability is exclusive to Zombie enemies, and allows them to come back to life after a set amount of time. Upon death, enemies that can still revive will not drop any money, and will leave behind a skull to indicate where they will respawn. The skull is harmless but still counts toward the enemy limit.

Each enemy with this ability has a different revival time, revive limit and remaining health after respawning. As of 9.6, Death Angel Z-Onel has the shortest revival time (15f), while Daboo of the Dead has the longest (600f). The revive limit can be either 1 or unlimited depending on the enemy, and most enemies respawn with either 50% HP or 100% HP, except for Inumusha and Daboo of the Dead, which respawn with 25% HP and 10% HP respectively.

Zombie Killer

This ability was added in BCJP 5.6.
Zombie Killer
Units with this ability can prevent Zombie enemies from reviving.

A Zombie won't revive if a Zombie Killer does the final blow, which is indicated by a blue flash as well as a unique sound effect. The sound effect and visual cue from this ability are displayed even if a Zombie was already on their last revive. Most anti-Zombie cats also have this ability, which is best used against Zombies that revive many times. This ability is mandatory if one wishes to kill certain zombies for good.

For a full list of cats with the "Zombie Killer" ability, see here.

After BCJP 6.5

Cats of the Cosmos arrived with new abilities and adjustments.

Warp

Warp
Attacks may cause enemies to be Warped.

An ability exclusive to enemies. Depending on the success chance and attack type of the enemy, one or a group of Cats that get hit will be warped back a specific distance and for a specific amount of time. Warp distance and warp time vary depending on the enemy, currently (9.6) Star Peng and Mesocosmocyclone have the longest abduction time (100f>10f) and Mystic Mask Yulala and Final Boss Giga-God have the longest warp distance (1500>150).

Trivia

  • The portals created when a unit is being warped resemble the portals from the game Portal as the initial portal is orange while the secondary portal is blue.
  • Despite being exclusive to enemies, the Warp ability is displayed in the Cat Filter as of BCJP 8.0.

Warp Blocker

Warp Blocker
Enemy Warp abilities do not affect this unit.

An ability some Cat Units have to deal with the enemies' Warp ability. Those Cats will ignore all warp effects. Upon being hit with a warping attack, Cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

For a full list of cats with the "Warp Blocker" ability, see here.

Barrier

This ability is exclusive to enemies. Enemies with this ability are protected by an invincible shield that blocks all attacks that are weaker than its limit. The player needs to land one strike with high enough power to break it, which is the upper limit it can protect the enemy. An animation of the Barrier materializing and flashing is shown when an attack of insufficient strength hits the Barrier, and another one of the Barrier cracking and falling apart when it breaks. When a Barrier is destroyed, the attack that broke it is still considered blocked and has no effect on the unit, unless the attack was from a Barrier Breaker. Attacks of insufficient strength cannot affect the protected unit in any way, including debuffs.

Each enemy with this trait has a different barrier limit. As of 9.6, Youcan and UltraBaaBaa are tied for the toughest barrier limit, at 266,000. In comparison, General GreGory has a barrier limit of merely 6,000. The Barrier includes damaging effects during damage calculation, such as Massive Damage, Savage Blow, etc. Cats with the Barrier Breaker ability will help a lot against Barrier-wielding enemies.

Barrier Breaker

Barrier Breaker
Has a chance to nullify enemy barriers and deliver huge damage upon break.

The counter ability of Barrier. Cats with this ability can break all barriers if they proc, even ones for which their raw attack would never be enough. This is indicated by a unique animation where the barrier shatters violently as opposed to cracking apart when normally destroyed. If a Barrier Breaker unit manages to break a barrier, the attack that destroyed the barrier will deal full damage to the enemy. However, there is a success chance to break a barrier. Some Cats have 100% chance to break barriers, like Fencer Cat, while others only have a chance to do so. The BreakerBlast cannon has 100% of smiting the barriers too.

For a full list of cats with the "Barrier Breaker" ability, see here.

Curse

This ability was added in BCJP 7.0.
Unitcurseicon
Enemy cannot inflict negative status effects for a short time.

Units with this ability have a chance to Curse the other side's units for a period of time. This effect completely nullifies all anti-trait abilities until the Curse ends, including Weaken, Freeze, Slow, Attacks Only, Strong Against, Resistant, Insanely Tough, Massive Damage, Insane Damage, Knockback, Dodge Attack and Toxic. Cats with the "Attacks Only" ability will be unable to deal damage to any enemy unit if they get Cursed, but can still attack bases.

Cursed Cats will display a small colored flame icon beside them to indicate that they have been afflicted with a Curse; green on Cats, yellow on enemies. The Curse chance and duration vary from unit to unit.

Kasli the Bane is the first Cat Unit to have this ability.

Immune to Curse

This ability was added in BCJP 7.0.
Epicability1
Immune to temporary status effects inflicted by enemy Curses.

This ability was added in BCJP 8.8.
Savage blow
Set chance to deal a large amount of extra damage.

This ability is similar to Critical Hit, giving the unit a set chance to perform a "Savage Blow" that deals extra damage. Unlike Critical Hits, however, Savage Blows do not ignore Metal enemies' ability of "one hit = 1 damage" and the damage multiplier is different for each unit.

Narita Kaihime is the first unit to have this ability.

For a full list of cats that can perform Savage Blows, see here.

Dodge Attack

This ability was added in BCJP 8.9.
Dodge
Temporarily avoids all damage from attacks from the target enemy type.

Units with this ability have a chance to take no damage from an enemy of a specific type and become immune to attacks from all targeted types for a set amount of time. When a unit successfully dodges an attack, a small yellow shield icon will briefly appear beside them, which disappears after their immunity ends. The Fruit Treasures currently have no effect on this ability.

Myrcia is the first unit to have this ability.

For a full list of cats with the Dodge Attack ability, see here.

After BCJP 9.0

Toxic

This ability was added in BCJP 9.1.

This ability is exclusive to enemies. Enemies with this ability have a chance to do a Toxic attack, which instantly deals damage equal to a percentage of Cat Units' maximum HP in addition to the regular damage. Toxic damage bypasses the Metal ability, but has no effect on bases.

Heavenly Herald Papuu is the first unit to have this ability.

Surge Attacks

This ability was added in version 9.2.
Volcano effect
Successful attacks deal extra damage to random sections in their attack area.

This effect is a long-distance, lingering attack that generates randomly in a given area when an attack connects. When the unit lands a hit, it has a chance to release a large, Shockwave-like blast which deals the same damage as the initial attack every second. There are different parameters which establish where the Surge Attack spawns and how long it lasts:

  • Duration of the Surge Attack determines how long it will linger on the field for, longer duration means that an enemy can be hit multiple times by the same Surge Attack.
  • Area of effect: Every unit with this ability has a designated area where a Surge Attack can appear, this value is independent from the attack range and will determine the minimum and maximum range in which the attack can appear, covering about 200px.
  • Level: ?

Despite looking similar, Surge Attacks are completely different from wave attacks; Immune to Waves, Wave Shield and Resist Wave will not protect against them; bases, however, are unaffected, just like with waves.

Kasli the Scourge and the new unit 544-1 are the only cats to have this ability.

Immune to Toxic

This ability was added in BCJP 9.3.
Poison immune
Immune to Toxic effects of enemy attacks!

Cats with this ability will not receive Toxic damage. Upon being hit with a Toxic attack, cats with this ability will briefly display a blue barrier in front of them to indicate that the effect had been negated.

Hades the Punisher is the first unit to have this ability.

Evade Surge

This ability was added in BCJP 9.5.
Unknown
Does not take Surge damage caused by enemy attacks.

Surge Attack damage is completely ignored by this ability. When hit by a Surge Attack, units with this ability will briefly have a small blue shield icon appear beside them, indicating that they have taken no damage from the Surge.

Kasli the Bane is the first Cat Unit to have this ability.

Collaboration-exclusive abilities do not appear in the Cat Filter.
