Strategy/Usage[]
Swimmer Cat can be spammed to easily take out Floating enemies such as Mooth, Owlbrow and The Face, or to deal some quick damage to non-Floating bosses such as Cruel Angel Clionel. Unless you can freeze them, however, Swimmer Cat is not recommended for use against Teacher Bun Bun variants before True Form, due to being outranged.
If you don't have the Breakerblast Cannon unlocked, Swimmer Cat is also one of the most efficient options for breaking Spacefish Jones's Barrier, since it only costs 675¢, can be timed with relative ease, and will continue to deal heavy damage to Jones afterwards.
True Form[]
Fishman Cat increases range to 215 and gains more health, damage and movement speed. The added range, even though it might not seem like much, now allows Fishman Cat to outrange all common Bun Bun variants, so timing is no longer needed in such cases. The other improvements are nothing special, but very good nevertheless, making this unit even stronger than before.
Talents[]
Since this is a Cat that relies a lot on basic stats, the improvements to health and damage, as well as the slot for a Talent Orb, preferably Floating, can all contribute to making Fishman Cat much better. Resist Slow is a very situational talent, so unlocking it shouldn't have a high priority. Slow is useless, as Fishman is often used to damage and defeat threats directly, making it irrelevant. Lastly, Move Speed Up. Due to how speed can cause units to clip into enemies slightly, this has the potential of ruining Fishman Cat's gain in range from the True Form, as it becomes unreliable at outranging Bun Bun and his variants, and can also make the unit useless against Othom since his attack will occur before the curse effect wears off. On the other hand, increasing Fishman Cat's speed can make it an even more effective rush unit, so unlocking it should be considered regardless.
Orb[]
Massive damage against floating is the best option. If the aforementioned is unavailable, run defense up instead, since an attack up orb provides a much weaker boost comparatively.

Trivia[]
- The lines "Knows the sadness of every match," "Found its strength by crying on its own," and "Won the blessing of victory by facing endless sorrow," in Swimmer Cat's and Butterfly Cat's Japanese descriptions reference the hit single "Ultra Soul" by rock duo B'z. The specific lyrics referenced can be translated as "First learn what sadness is, go and cry on your own," and "If you want to be blessed, first let yourself face that endless pain," and are phrased almost exactly like this unit's descriptions in Japanese.
- The song "Ultra Soul" has been associated with competitive swimming in Japan. The music video takes place at a swimming pool, and one of the single's B-sides is "Suimā-yo 2001!" ("Swimmer-yo 2001!").
- Fishman Cat could be a reference to the Gill-man, a scaly, amphibious humanoid monster from the classic film Creature from the Black Lagoon.
- Fishman Cat could also be a reference to the Fish-Men in One Piece.
