Strategy/Usage[]
Shingen is basically a Black/Alien nuker. While he only attacks these traits, he absolutely eviscerates them and will be extremely helpful in Alien/Black heavy stages.
Due to his long attack animation, he will often miss his targets, meaning that he is more effective when there are not many units to support him or against enemies with few knockbacks.
While his slow attacks leave him to be undesirable, he can almost always be useful in all Into the Future stages and later Stories of Legend stages, as well as Cats of the Cosmos on occasion.
True Form[]
Immortal Shingen has better range and damage, which, combined, improve his effectiveness by a lot. Thanks to these, Shingen is now able to hit more enemies, plus he has more time to hit them before he is reached. In addition, his improved health can make him work better against Tackey and the like.
Talents[]
Talents allow Immortal Shingen to target Angels, which pretty much increases his usability to 50%, if not more due to the abundance of mix-trait stages, and how he can outrange most short-ranged angel pushers, even reaching into the mid-rangers with Angelic Sleipnir. Attack Buff and the Talent Orb slot can be used to further improve Shingen's damage, which, considering how strong this unit is, can never be a bad idea. Also note that an Attack Orb would increase Shingen's damage by a larger amount than your usual damage dealer, as he relies directly on his base attack power, rather than a modifier like massive damage.
Cost Down, Barrier Breaker and Health Up are definitely nice, but only invest in them if you see yourself using Shingen a lot, as these are pricey for how rarely they make a difference. Of note is that, should you invest in Shingen's Attack Buff and get him to Level 60, he'll begin dealing enough damage to break even the barriers of UltraBaaBaa and Youcan, thus making Barrier Breaker almost completely worthless, so do not get that talent if you plan to use your Dark Catseyes on him.
Ultra Talents[]
With these, Shingen can target Red, Zombie, and Aku enemies, though each trait is unlocked separately. Unfortunately, while these talents are great, they may not be worth the Catseyes and NP. These talents are useful for mixed-trait stages with the traits that Shingen already targets.
Red enemies would normally be the strongest showing, though Red enemies have already been powercrept by the plethora of non-Uber anti-Reds. This talent would be unnecessary on account of it being overkill, though a level 60+ Shingen can still shine against some of the beefier Red enemies when crowd-controlling options are limited. However, against enemies that can be crowd-controlled, such as Bore and J.K Bun Bun, he is largely unnecessary due to the plethora of non-Uber options to take care of them. Notably, he can outrange Red EnerG and mostly stay safe from his Surge, and this is one of the few uses where Shingen shines due to a lack of competition and not just brute power. Additionally, if Red EnerG pushes, then the attack will allow Shingen to reposition to safety, as a Shingen at such a high level would have the HP to handle it.
Zombie enemies are considerably less powercrept and generally more difficult to defeat than Red enemies, so this talent would be quite useful. However, this talent does not come with Z-Killer or Soulstrike, which severely limits Shingen's compatibility against these enemies and even makes those enemies more difficult should they be given the chance to revive, as they likely will revive if a powerful hit from Shingen finishes them off. This is, by far, Shingen's worst talent purely because he has no way of acquiring Z-Killer or Soulstrike. This may change in the future if an Ultra Form is added.
Aku enemies are a more favorable matchup than Red or Zombie enemies. Shingen has no Shield Pierce, though he can still work well against Akus without shields or with the brute force to break them anyhow. Even then, he can be paired with Shield Piercers in several occasions. However, his compatibility is limited by the complete lack of immunities, as Aku enemies often throw waves and surges around every corner they touch. Both of these can nullify Shingen's range advantage if he can't tank them head-on. If you already plan on boosting Shingen to level 60, then this would be the most worthwhile Ultra Talent, though even then, it comes with limitations.

Trivia[]
- This cat is a tribute to the eponymous Japanese warlord, Takeda Shingen.
- Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin are known for their rivalry during the Sengoku period. They were enemies in multiple battles, yet they had mutual respect for each other.
- Although Immortal Shingen's description states that he is using the Cat Sword, it is actually an axe.
- Takeda Shingen does the third highest damage out of all cats (EN version), behind only Lasvoss Reborn/Heracrist (tied for 2nd), and Mad Doctor Klay.
- The marks on Takeda Shingen's sword in the Japanese version are different than the English version, with the Japanese one having the marks "風林火山" on it (Wind, Forest, Fire, Mountain (A reference to the Takeda Crest)) on all the form's weapons and meaningless marks/signs on the English version.
- This makes him one of the few cats with regional differences.
- Takeda Shingen is the first target only unit.
