The Face

The Face (カオル君, Kaoru-kun) is a Floating enemy first seen as the boss of the Moon in Empire of Cats Chapter 1.

Enemy[]

The boss of the first Chapter's final stage, The Face has extremely high health and attack but is the slowest enemy in the game. Additionally, he attacks very infrequently, rendering his highly devastating attacks useless in the presence of meatshields and 350+ range cats.

Later on in the game, this enemy becomes more defensively-focused, as his 1 speed keeps him from straying too far away from the enemy base, along with late-game buffs making his high health and high attack power skyrocket to where he can destroy most of your units with a single chomp.

Strategy[]

Use long-ranged units such as Lizard Cat and/or Gross Cat to hit him from a distance, while dealing constant damage.

It is recommended to only use crowd-controllers that can outrange him, but even then, because of his 1 movement speed, there is not much reason to use any effect other than Weaken or Freeze. Uber Rare Cats that work especially well against The Face include, but are not limited to: Saber, Super Galaxy Cosmo, Empress Chronos, Megidora, M. Bison, Madoka Kaname, Shining Amaterasu, Catman, and virtually any other generalist or anti-Floating Uber.

You can also take advantage of his long interval between attacks by using units such as Swimmer Cat, Express Cat, Hip Hop Cat and/or Awakened Bahamut Cat, to get some quick damage off. Otherwise, he should not be the main focus for your lineup in many of the stages he appears in, and instead he is either used as mid ranged support for other enemies, like Teacher Bun Bun or R.Ost, or as a gimmick due to its extremely slow speed.

Dashing Face	Dashing Face	A Traitless variant of The Face with feet and thus no Floating trait. Considerably faster than The Face (has half of Shy Boy's speed) and has a much faster attack speed, but has about half of The Face's health.
Princess Head	Princess Head	A variant of The Face with Princess Punt hair. 1/3 as fast as Doge Dark. Attacks about as fast as Shy Boy and does 2,400 damage at 100% strength magnification.
I.M. Phace	I.M. Phace	An Alien/Floating version of The Face. Much faster and has a chance to freeze Cat Units. To add insult to injury, he has longer range, making him very hard for Gross Cat and Psychocat to survive long against him. He gets knocked back twice as much as The Face.
CyberFace	CyberFace	A Metal variant of The Face. Has very low health but compensates for it with extreme damage, high speed, Base Destroyer and an incredibly powerful Wave Attack that can one-shot almost every unit in the game, with a chance to knockback Cat Units if they aren't killed by the Wave or initial hit. However, it dies to any Critical Hit due to its terrible health.
Hannya	Hannya	A red variant that moves slowly, but with exceptional range, damage, health, and 100% chance to weaken cats to 25% for 5 seconds. Introduced as the boss of River Styx.
Lowkey	Lowkey	A Relic/Floating variant of The Face, with far more range, rapid attacks, 100% chance to curse cats for 10 seconds and only one knockback.
Dead Donny Dash	Dead Donny Dash	A Zombie variant of Dashing Face. Has Long Distance attacks, burrows 750 towards the Cat Base and revives once at 100% HP.
Shakurel Face	Shakurel Face	A variant of The Face that only appears in the Shakurel Planet stages. Has quadruple the health and damage of a normal Face.
Black Okame	Black Okame	A Red/Black variant of Hannya, with freeze immunity, much more HP, only one knockback, less damage and faster attacks, as well as 100% chance to knockback cats. Though its standing range is subpar, its Omni Strike gives it extreme reach.
Yakisoba Face	Yakisoba Face	A variant of The Face that appears in the Nissin U.F.O. Collaboration Event. Has high range, one knockback, low movement speed and can warp Cat Units for 1,000 range.
Wicked Face	Wicked Face	An Aku variant of The Face. Has very long range with an even longer Mini-Wave attack, as well as freeze and a Shield.
Sathankhamun VIII	Sathankhamun VIII	An Aku variant of Hannya. Has slightly varied stats, but also has an Omni Strike and a 100% chance to slow every cat within its range.

オニダンゴを食べてオ二化したカオル君。ツノが生えたせいでバランスが崩れ以前よりも浮かぶのに苦労しているがおかげでインナーマッスルが鍛えられている。	Kaoru-kun became an Oni by eating Onidango. Because of the horn, his balance is off and has a harder time floating than before but thanks to this, his inner muscles are getting a good workout.

Trivia[]

His real name is "Kaoru Hikao" or "Kaoru Higao" (飛顔かおる), as shown at the bottom of the screen with other enemy names in a commercial for the Final Boss Strikes?! Collaboration Event. Hikao/Higao is not an actual surname that anyone has in real life, but a pun using the kanji for "fly" (飛) and "face" (顔). Kaoru is a real name, but is also being used as a pun: kao means "face".
His appearance is a close match for the profile of Masaoka Shiki, a poet and essayist in Meiji period Japan.
He may take inspiration from Ōkubi, a floating head yōkai whose name literally means "giant head".
I.M. Phace's Japanese description suggests that the smaller Phace inside his mouth is actually The Face himself, somehow shrunken down and using the larger Phace as a mobile villa.
In Teacher Cybear's Japanese description, it's stated that he freeloaded at The Face's house for 6 years without going outside.
The Face can be considered the first Floating enemy in the series, as he's been present since Ganso!! Nyanko Daisensou whereas Mooth was introduced in Kumanchu Royale.
He has a higher ID than Shy Boy and Assassin Bear despite appearing earlier.
The Face, Dark Emperor Nyandam and Teacher Bun Bun all share the same amount of health: 99,999. However, Nyandam only has one unbuffed appearance, and Teacher Bun Bun has always been fought at 400% or more.
He is the slowest non-stationary enemy in the game.
The game Heads Off may be based entirely off of him, since it features floating heads. He even makes an appearance in it as one of the unlockable characters.
As indicated by Nighttime Lure, The Face may be implied to be a part of Face Force 5, mentioned in I.M Phace’s EN description.
