Strategy/Usage[]
Like the other Ultra Souls, The Grateful Crane has significantly different stats between Normal (spammable) and Evolved Form (high performance), both of which can be used effectively depending on the situation.
Normal Form[]
The Grateful Crane is a really good counter to some of the Cyclones (Black, White, Divine and Red), especially with Sanzo Cat, as he has a fast attack rate, great damage and a chance to knock them back. Besides this, his short range and slow speed only let him be useful against similarly short ranged enemies, despite the damage.
Evolved Form[]
Super Galaxy Cosmo's guaranteed status effects and incredible range allows him to chip down threats from afar while impeding his targets. This is particularly useful against Crazed Lizard Cat, Crazed Bird Cat or THE SLOTH. However, his attack rate is too slow for him to meaningfully hinder these threats, and an adequate fighting force is needed to keep them at bay.
Super Galaxy Cosmo actually has marginally higher range than Sunfish Jones and Spacefish Jones (850 compared to the Jones' 840) and his status effects target both. However, the tiny range difference makes him a rather inconsistent counter.
When Super Galaxy Cosmo is idle, using your regular Cat Cannon will make him run straight into the middle of the fight due to his insane speed, so you should only use it if you need it for certain purposes that are more important than Cosmo's safety, or use it while he's in his super long attack animation.
True Form[]
The main reason to get this True Form is the gain of a fairly long freeze effect. The uptime may be low, but that's not what it is for. Instead, Cosmo's freeze should be used to create an opportunity for others, such as A. Bahamut, to deal a lot of damage to hard-to-hit enemies such as Winged Pigge or to gain ground on a speedy army, such as one of Li'l Bun Buns or Angelic Gories, or a tough enemy.
Cosmo's second improvement is his damage, which increases by 40%. His DPS is still low, but once he gets a hit in, he’ll rip a major chunk out of the battlefield. Cosmo is still situational and none of his weaknesses are fixed, though, he can just make up for them better. Overall, the evolution is well worth it, despite the massive catfruit cost. With proper meatshielding, he'll be able to do substantial damage to most of the enemies in the game, and the knockback and freeze against angels/flying can make the difference between possible and impossible stages, especially for newer/intermediate players.
Talents[]
The main useful talent for Cosmo is Colossus Slayer. Due to his naturally high range, he can outrange and stay safe in most Colossal stages. This mainly gives him use against Archangel Exiel, Baron Seal (who relies on Angel peons for pressure), and Great Angel Chibinel. Granted, this requires proper defense, as those stages tend to be particularly difficult and push hard. His abilities could work against Mega Mooth, but the second half of his gauntlet features Zombies who could burrow past Cosmo's range advantage. This talent could also be unlocked for general anti-Colossal attacks, since Cosmo has the range to make it work on many Colossal gauntlets.
If this talent is unlocked, then the Attack Up talent is also an option, given that the player has an abundance of NP. Cosmo already has use as a general backliner, and can deal heavy damage to strong peons improves his niche. This especially works out since, even with Colossus Slayer in play, Colossal enemies and their peons can have insane stats. HP Up, however, is not as high-priority, as Cosmo usually relies on his range to avoid attacks. For that same reason, Curse Immunity is also not recommended. It could potentially help against unboosted Loris or the Relic Doge Base, though such cases are generally too sparing to be worth the NP cost of this talent.
Finally, as well as an immunity to curses, Cosmo himself can gain the ability to Curse. This talent is also iffy, as Curse is not nearly as useful as Knockback or Freeze. In fact, since any targeted enemies will get Frozen anyhow, Curse would barely have any time to shine. It could potentially be useful against enemies such as Winged Pigge, Heavenly Herald Papuu, Archangel Exiel on the Angel side and Gobble or Zollow on the Floating side, especially since Curse disables all enemy Toxic attacks. However, as this talent is costly in NP, it might not be worthwhile if other options exist. Notably, Papuu is immune to Freeze but not to Curse, so this talent could potentially help players who struggle on this stage. However, this stage alone should not be a reason to unlock this talent.

Trivia[]
- Prior to Version 4.7, The Grateful Crane was a part of two other Cat Combos: Ancient Heroes and Ultra Souls.
- If one looks closely during Super Galaxy Cosmos's attack animation, the projectile he fires is actually a giant glowing crane.
- He has the second longest attack animation of any Cat Unit in the game, only beaten by Filibuster Cat.
- This unit is loosely based on Crane's Return of a Favor.
- The evolved form references the anime series Saint Seiya. The armor greatly resembles the combination between Cygnus & Pegasus Cloth. The crane circlet and shield-like armlet are highly resembling Cygnus Cloth's trademark while the breastplate, shoulder, hip and leg armor resembling more like the Pegasus Cloth.
- "Cosmo" is another reference to the energy in the Saint Seiya franchise.
