The Pure Land (Merciless) is an Advent Stage unlocked after clearing River Acheron. It appears on the 11th, 12th, 25th, and 26th of every month. When clearing this stage, there is a chance to unlock Medusa Cat. This is a No Continues stage.

Strategy[]

This endurance battle is all about stalling with burst damage until most of the peons stop spawning. With 100% Knockback on hit and Freeze Immunity, Black Okame's relentless attacks can and will push through everything it hits. Short-ranged, slow attackers are not recommended for the boss, since its 800 range Omni Strike will easily beat them into submission.

As Okame has only one knockback, Sniper and Breakerblast should prove useful on this stage, as they'll cause Okame to flinch and interrupt its attacks on hit.

Recommended Units[]

  • Crystal Li'l Gau Gau - Being an Anti-Black Specialist Meatshield with Knockback Immunity, this unit can easily withstand several punishing attacks from Okame and other Black threats. It won't hold up against Ginger Snache, but there won't be superior alternatives anywhere else.
  • Roe - Roe Cat's resistance and weaken ability against Reds makes it incredibly durable against its target trait despite being vulnerable to knockback, as it leaves Okame with no opportunity to push, though the Black threats must be dealt with accordingly.
  • Stone - Stone's massive health and Knockback Immunity allows it to stall just about any enemy in this stage, and gets more consistent with research combos while other units catch up.
  • Cyberpunk/Sniper - Both units provide valuable Slow effects against non-Metal enemies at extreme range, with Cyberpunk's LD attacks hitting everything in his small AOE while Sniper's single-target attacks knock back everything on hit. Both won't work alone, but definitely make things much easier.
  • Bullet Train - Bullet Train is a very fast rusher with the Extra Money ability and decent damage. Combined with Stone, Bullet Train can pick off Doge Darks to ease any economical pressure. With full backswing cooldown as well as enough health to withstand one attack from Okame, Bullet Train can potentially attack twice or more when dispatched, accumulating valuable chip damage over time on Okame.
  • Heavy Assault C.A.T. - With Massive Damage, Attack Up and Defense Up Talents, Heavy Assault C.A.T. serves as a surprisingly competent attacker, as the unit's speed, area attacks and anti-Black Weaken all help to remove such threats from play despite its high cost.
  • Assassin Bearcat - Assassin BearCat is a disposable, somewhat fast melee attacker with Insane Damage to Black held back by its incredibly low range. Though it must be at level 43 or above to tank a Gory Black hit and can be occasionally inconsistent against Doge Dark, it still does a lot and can quickly nuke Black peons with proper support.
  • Pizza - Pizza is a midranger with Massive Damage against Blacks. Admittedly unusable against Okame due to having very slow speed and low standing range, Pizza is still an important inclusion as it can comfortably deal with those nasty Gory Blacks, who will more often than not advance far beyond Okame's standing range and can be difficult to handle with their high health.
  • Cutter - Cutter works just as well as it did in Realm of Carnage. Having 100% chance to Survive a lethal strike, 400% Strengthen at 1% health and Massive Damage to Reds, this cheap unit can deal incredible bursts of damage to Okame should it attack successfully while strengthened, while Ginger Snaches won't stand a chance Cutter however is hindered significantly by its long cooldown and Black peons, so it must be used with caution.
  • Manic Island - Manic Island is an incredibly good general purpose unit thanks to its low cost for its good stats. Being Strong against Reds as well, it can potentially survive multiple Okame hits to deal some chip damage, and also takes out Ginger Snache easily. Doesn't work so well when Blacks arrive, but it still provides great value for what it does.
  • Awakened Bahamut - Bahamut doesn't well on the stage and won't get to deal much damage due to having terrible health and low range. However, his very high speed and powerful area attacks can be useful in a pinch against Gory Blacks, or to help with cleanup once Okame's support runs dry.

Recommended Ubers[]

  • Immortal Yukimura: A rusher with short cooldown, low cost, high speed and Massive Damage to Blacks, enabling aggressive use of him against Okame and most of the peons. Make sure you have a clear shot before sending him out, though.
  • Immortak Keiji: A decent midranged tank unit, Resisting Blacks and able to handle the peons, and with a 100% strengthen at 50% health, he can deal some serious damage. He can serve as a good stepping-stone for your frontline defense, though despite having more range, he'll have a hard time trying to hit Okame since he's vulnerable to Knockback.
  • King Gamereon: Gameron is a midranged tanker who boasts extreme health against Black enemies and has enough damage to easily kill the peons. However, as with Keiji, Gameron is vulnerable to knockback and can be pushed away easily. Combined with his slow attacks, Gameron won't work alone either.
  • Musashi Miyamoto: Due to his devastating anti-Black offense and defense, Musashi Miyamoto can almost solo the entire stage. Make sure you also have something to take out the Ginger Snaches, and you can win with nearly zero effort by spawning him and watching the destruction unfold.
  • Kasa Jizo: Jizo's first form is a disposable midranger with Massive Damage against Blacks. He won't be able to deal with Okame, but is instead useful in neutralizing Gory Blacks and Doge Darks.

Strategy 1 (No Talents)[]

Recommended lineup: Sister Act, Duet (or Itchy Riches), Cyberpunk Cat, Power Cutter Cat, Manic Eraser Cat, Bullet Train Cat, Pizza Cat, Roe Cat, and the last slot is a free choice.

Notes: Bullet Train Cat, Pizza Cat and Power Cutter Cat should be as high-level as possible and can be replaced by Yukimura or A. Bahamut. Do not replace Pizza with other anti-Blacks unless you have no choice. Roe Cat is fine at level 30. Keep in mind that this stage has a single boss with periodic and sparse waves of enemies, therefore, so long as you have a way to not let Black Okame advance despite the other enemies, you will eventually kill it.

2020 02

This was taken at the beginning of the fight, once Black Okame met the real line of defence

Battle: Start with Power Cutter for free damage, then let the first Doge Dark get closer and defeat him with Bullet Train, then start summoning Erasers. The second step is to summon Cyberpunk Cat and start spamming Roe Cats for the rest of the fight.

2020 03

The ghost far above Doge Dark is Okame, notice how the frontline barely moved.

The general idea is that the Roes will stop Okame, Cutter will damage it, Pizza will clear the peons after the defensive line breaks, Cyberpunk will limit the pushback and the Breakerblast Cannon will push Black Okame further back after Pizza kills the peons and the defensive line is restored. Your Cyberpunks will die, but you should be able to respawn them often enough to keep up with Okame. Rinse and repeat 'till you win.

If for whatever reason you lose, try again while being more careful about your Roe spamming. Spam Manic Erasers and Pizza only when peons are coming/present. Save Bullet Train for Doge Darks or Ginger Snaches when no Gory Black is around. Save Cutter for Black Okame or panic situations. Ramen Cat is only used for Combos. Add Sniper the Cat or give Talents/levels to your units if it's still out of your reach.

Strategy 2 (No Combos)[]

Lineup: Sniper the Deadeye, Cyberpunk Cat (30, Max Slow, Max Cost Down), Manic Eraser Cat (35), Rock Cat (30), Courier Cat (50), Pizza Cat (30, Talents reccomended, not used), Roe Cat (40), Bullet Train Cat (45), Awakened Bahamut Cat (40)

Notes: Rich Cat and Sniper the Cat were used. Normal Cat Cannon was used. Final slot can be replaced with a unit like Yukimura, Cutter Cat, or Talented Heavy Assault Cat.

Strategy: Send out Rock Cat twice at the start to stall Okame. Wait until Doge Dark spawns, and send out Bullet Train Cat to kill it. The first peon wave should arrive by this point, so start sending out Courier, Manic Eraser, and Pizza Cat. Once Bullet Train is up, if there isn't a peon wave going on, try to save it for when Okame is alone. Same with Awakened Bahamut, but especially so, since he dies in two hits to Okame. You should be constantly sending out Rock Cat, as it prevents Okame from moving forward at all.

Peons Phase: Send out Pizza when the Gory Black spawns, and send out Courier when the Ginger Snaches get past Okame. You should be meatshielding this with Rock and Manic Eraser. Send out more Couriers and a Roe if needed. Feel free to Bullet Train a Doge Dark if you're running low on cash.

Okame Phase: During this time, you should be refreshing your Cyberpunk and Deadeye. Send out Rock Cat when Okame is about to be unslowed to keep her from advancing. If Okame is right on your base, Deadeye should be able to push her off. Send out Bullet Train if possible to chip Okame. Courier can also chip Okame if properly timed.

If you Fail:

- Talent Pizza Cat

- Increase your general levels

- Unlock Cyberpunk's Lethal Strike talent

- Switch your 10th slot to a stronger unit, like an uber that can hit Okame.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the Version 9.1 Update, this stage lacked a No Continues restriction.
  • A "pure land" is a concept in Mayahayan Buddhism, its many traditions and teachings falling into the branch of Amidism/Pure Land Buddhism. Reaching the Pure Land is the final goal of Amidism and is tantamount to attaining enlightenment.
    • The opposite of the Pure Land is the land of the living, also called the Impure Land, which appears in Heaven and Hell's Japanese name.
    • Interestingly enough, Hannya's Japanese description mentions that she consumes the souls of those who cannot gain enlightenment, with the term used, jōbutsu (成仏) specifically referring to attaining Buddhahood.
  • Courts of Torment's Japanese name is Narakumon (奈落門), which, like River Styx' Japanese name, translates to "Hell Gate" or "Gates of Hell". However, instead of jigoku (地獄), the term used in Courts of Torment is naraku (奈落), which refers to a Naraka, the Buddhist equivalent of Hell.
  • The Japanese name of this stage, Gokuraku Jōdo (獄楽浄土) makes a pun: normally it would translate to "Paradise Pure Land", but it spells gokuraku (極楽, paradise) with the kanji 獄, meaning "prison". This character is also used in the Japanese word for Hell, jigoku (地獄).
    • Heaven and Hell's Japanese name makes the same pun, but also replaces the word for the Pure Land with that for the Impure Land.
