Strategy/Usage[]
Thief Cat's selling point is the cost efficiency: good stats, low cost, more money from enemies he defeats. Thus, he is best used early on in a stage, to rack up money from the weak peons that come out, which may even include the likes of Hippoes or Sir Seals, not just Doges. While it can stack, resulting in good DPS, the short range and not-so-short recharge time make it really hard for this unit to serve as a proper attacker once the main force comes out. It may still be a good idea to use Thief in other scenarios, as any stolen kill will make up for the shortcomings in offensive power and low survivability, but it is usually best to directly invest the money on something better suited for whatever situation unfolds, rather than leaving it to chance.
He can be quite useful in stages with time score rewards or rush based strategies, as a small investment can result in the funds for strong rushers becoming available earlier.
Do not use Thief Cat in Catclaw Dojo, as you get no money for defeating enemies in there, making this cat's only selling point invalid.
True Form[]
Goemon Cat improves attack power and range, but, more importantly, it now has Area Attack. With this True Form, a swarm of Goemons can sweep through peons, getting much more money than normal.
Even late in the game, stages that start with weak foes exist, but the low frequency of such scenario makes this cat generally not worth bringing for that purpose, at least when entering a stage blind. Thanks to the now decent DPS, however, he can now more easily double as an attacker when strong enemies do come, with good match-ups being any short ranged foes or enemies like Tackey, whose Long Distance attacks can be avoided somewhat reliably by Goemon.
Talents[]
When Goemon Cat is given the strengthen ability, better speed and stats (on top of + levels and Catseyes), it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Although it is a big investment to make Goemon Cat viable by the time you unlock it, it can become very good at its job, easily becoming a good use of one's money in a fight. Despite the boosts it's given, it won't become a very strong anti-Zombie too easily, so Zombie Killer isn't vital to unlock. If, however, one doesn't have a high-level Li'l Flying Cat, or if one is just tired of running out of money in Zombie stages, Goemon Cat can be a solid supporter in those situations too, especially if given a Talent Orb to improve its anti-Zombie damage.
The short version is that Goemon Cat's Talents are a big investment for a relatively good return, but going halfway won't work.
Orb[]
While the aforementioned attack up for zombies is a good option, the generalist role of this cat makes it hardly worth it, as it will rarely come into play. Leaving the slot empty may thus be the way to go.

Trivia[]
- Phantom Thief Cat is likely a reference to Arsène Lupin, a fictional gentleman thief created by French author Maurice Leblanc in 1905.
- Phantom Thief Cat may also be a reference to the "phantom thief" Kaito Kuroba from the Magic Kaito series. His signature weapon is his cards as a magician. He has a card-shooting gun and he always warns people before he robs them using cards or some gimmick.
- Goemon Cat is a reference to Ishikawa Goemon, a famous Japanese bandit from the Warring States period.
- The line, "The inside of its box can't become four-dimensional," in Goemon Cat's Japanese description may be a reference to Doraemon, who has a four-dimensional pouch that he uses to store various gadgets.
